Pros

-Program Managers -Flexibility -Tutoring Materials -Reputation It is mostly a great job. I love working with students and this gives me the opportunity to do just that.

Cons

-Travel. Students who live within 30 minutes can still take almost an hour to get to them based on their lesson time and traffic. Not being compensated for this time, is a downer. It means more time away from my family. -Parent expectations. I've had a few parents recently that expect to have a conversation after every session, some of these run 15+ minutes. Or they're calling and emailing me a couple times a week. I'm not compensated for that time. -Student Expectations: Students seem to not being doing the homework on time more and more lately. I've had a few students who feel that I should be able to help them improve their scores, but do nothing during the week we're not meeting to get better. I even send links to flashcards so they can work on it a few minutes a day. -Raises: Getting a raise once a year is okay, but I think every six months if you work a minimum number of hours would be more fair. It encourages tutoring, but also gives the tutor a reason to keep doing it.

Great company to work for

Pros

Pay is good for tutoring industry, program managers are pleasant to work with and understanding as well as easy to reach when necessary, proctoring is still relatively new (about a year, year and a half) but has been running smoothly and the team is easy to work with. Very impressed with how the company has handled COVID-19.

Cons

Expected to have 6 hours of availability weekly which can be difficult if you have a full-time job or limited evening/weekend availability, but some program managers are willing to work with you on that so it's not a major problem.

Easy work but underpaid

Pros

All materials are provided and once you get into the swing of it, it requires very little outside prep. Program managers tend to be responsive. Schedules are completely set by the tutors, and students are screened for engagement so noncompliance is low.

Cons

The pay is less than half of what can be earned for the same subject outside the company. Management keeps a huge cut of the program fees so students are forced to massively overpay for the services.

Not enough pay for tutoring

Pros

Decent training material for ACT prep. I appreciated that students were found for me. Program manager was friendly and responsive.

Cons

No pay for session preparation, driving time, or gas. My hourly rate was effectively halved when these were accounted for.

Pros

Good training, online, with helpful materials from the company and beyond. Very helpful program managers with positive, friendly attitudes. Never afraid to ask questions or voice concerns. Great job for someone with a college degree who needs to make a little extra money and needs a flexible schedule! Great hourly pay and good students/families. So much flexibility!

Cons

I would have liked to be assigned more students, but unfortunately I never was able to tutor more than 6-8 hours a week. Not a lot of room to grow within the company.

We appreciate the feedback! There are a number of factors that impact how many assignments and hours a tutor receives (subject, location, schedule, student's needs, etc.). I will share this feedback with our recruiting team so we can set appropriate expectations with tutors. Thanks! Best, Greg President & Co-Founder

Pros

Flexible paid online training. The company provides all materials and assigns students so there's no marketing on the tutor's part. Good program managers to work with. I liked having a mentor tutor. Great experience working with students which is the most important part.

Cons

The pay does not take into consideration all the prep work and travel time. For instance, if I called a program manager with a question about a student and the call ended up lasting 30 minutes, that is unpaid work for a non-salaried tutor. The materials would change (updated materials in itself is a good thing) so that I feel I had to learn all new material over again on my own time.
