Pros

My coworkers were fantastic. We had a great group that collaborated and helped each other out. It is a good place to get solid experience AND then move on. Also, the benefits are excellent. Employees get short term disability, dental insurance, and life insurance premiums paid at 90%.

Cons

Please look at the below examples of things I was either asked or told to do and seriously consider if you would want to work at this establishment. As a person employed in the human resource operations these were some things I was told/asked to do: 1. Throw bio-hazard away in a regular dumpster. I did NOT do this because I am a smart person. I was told to do this by one of the human resource managers. I was told we are not a large quantity generator of bio-hazard and that's why it's ok to do. There is no such thing. 2. Lie on an hourly person's time card by inputting a vacation day (that they did not request and was not preapproved) so they would not lose holiday pay. 3. After maternity leave, I was asked to pump in an elevator closet (where the mechanics are housed) because all other private rooms were taken. This was after I had politely/professionally asked to pump in my car. I was asked to do this by one of the human resource managers. This is actually not compliant with state code and we would have incurred a fine per the a state inspector that I spoke with. 4. I witnessed several mold techs with their whole bodies inside presses without them locked out/tagged out. When I brought this up I was told this was okay.

We do not believe these comments accurately reflect the complete facts of these allegations. They certainly do not represent the values of Summit Polymers. Summit has a well-defined Problem Solving Process that includes escalation of issues to Plant and Corporate Management. To the best of our knowledge, these issues were never escalated. We take these allegations seriously, will fully investigate them and respond appropriately.

Pros

Started my career in HR there and it set me up well to advance and move on. I learned a little about every aspect of HR. Summit has processes and procedures very well organized and detailed, making it easier to learn.

Cons

No employee recognition; internal advancement poor (especially for production employees); everyone is "disposable"; pay for the lower level salary positions is very poor and increases are never more than 3%. Certain production/floor positions make more than many salary employees (salary employees who had to have a 4 year degree to get hired).

With our Talent Management program, in the1st half of 2016, 71% of our Manager/Supervisor openings were filled by internal applicants. Journeyman skilled trades (maintenance, tooling, automation) technicians do make higher pay than entry-level salary positions. We are working diligently to improve Summit as a place to work. Salary turnover has trended down substantially since 2013 in spite of a tight labor market.
