Pros

Sundae School is one of the few companies I have had the pleasure to work with in the past, where the leadership has a vision and emphasizes moral, ethical, and frugal values. Some could not handle the intensity of the environment, because fashion is hard, and the market was preparing for recession, and they could not keep up with the crunch time work. But for those who could, Sundae School gave confidence and boosted morality. I left because I was recruited to another company to head marketing, but the experience and growth opportunities from Sundae School has been very rewarding.

Cons

The Cons could be that Sundae School works people. But it works people because they're working in an inefficient way, providing minimal value.

You WILL be exploited

Pros

"Clout" could be considered a pro, but my decline in health (both physical and mental) is not enough to justify working here for as long as I did.

Cons

I almost don’t know where to start, but my blood boils when I see commenters on social media asking "if sundae school is hiring!" because there are no words to describe what goes on behind the scenes. Like the title implies, working here could be synonymous to signing part of your life away. Your eagerness to work at such a viral, influencing AAPI founded company WILL be exploited. Young AAPI creatives BEWARE. He hires young people to exploit their willingness to learn and work for cheap. He has explicitly stated he “hires asian people because they’re harder working” and has scoffed at non east-asian staff behind closed doors. We have underpaid every collaboration artist we have ever worked with. The CEO has mocked every contractor, model, or freelance rate he has ever been presented, and still manages to undercut them, offering discount codes or in-store credit instead. You WILL be given a higher title like “manager” with the malicious intent to make you feel like you need to live up to the title you are given. You WILL be expected to work extended hours with no overtime pay. You WILL be underpaid. You WILL feel pressured by the CEO about your sexual identity, body image, race and substance use. You WILL be lied to by the CEO directly. And you WILL burn out. Any degree of work life balance separation you try to enact will be dismantled by a saturday midnight call or text from the CEO. There are no boundaries. The owner, founder, and CEO is a serial liar and will pit employees against each other with “he said, she said” phone calls after hours. The only solace is being able to go to your fellow employees for comfort and the CEO directly tries to destroy those relationships. We’ve attempted multiple “come to jesus” All Hands meetings to no avail except to end up with the CEO crying and feeling threatened. Which resulted in the quitting of 20 employees (including all of his longest standing employees and leadership team) within the last year. He burns through investor money on luxurious dinners and airbnbs. He brags about giving himself pay cuts for the good of the employees but who’s to say what is true. In the time I’ve worked, I have not seen anyone receive a raise or bonus after being promised multiple times. As long as he is in charge, nothing will change. He has cut every possible corner to save a few bucks and the quality of the goods has significantly declined as a result. He is a liar, creep, racist, and master manipulator to his core. I tried to use ChatGPT to aid in writing this review but not even AI could understand the scope of dreadful inhuman behavior from the founder and CEO. Save your energy, health, and time.
