Gain skills and knowledge in diverse range of Texas policy areas. Have a direct impact on making state government work well. Interact with and influence top elected and appointed government officials. Develop contacts and subject matter expertise. Pathway to state pension and great benefits, etc.
Cons
Cyclical work, lots of up & downs. Fast paced, long hours expected at times. Not a great job for someone looking for steady, 9-5 work. Can be very stress and anxiety provoking (testifying as subject matter expert in front of committees, etc.)
