      A mixed bag

      Pros

      Contracts mean that you know ( basically) what to expect Generally a safe workplace

      Cons

      A force that has lost its way. Rudderless management that is sycophantic in supporting left leaning progressive ideas and philosophy. While they do that the workers have to knock themselves out trying to manage huge workloads. Turnover is at ridiculously high levels - experienced staff and officers have left or planning their escape. Contact centre and control room have completely lost it - staff leaving in droves due to unmanageable workloads and lack of staff.

      Pros

      Shift pattern for response is good. The shift pattern for the SIU is also good. Good kit issue The Chief Constable is very good, approachable and is what you would envisage the Head of a large organisation to be.

      Cons

      If you are in the Met and thinking of transferring to Surrey don't. The Met has far greater opportunities to develop your career both laterally and upwards. Surrey Police look on ex Met officers as pariahs and think because you have worked for the Met are a cowboy. Promotion non existent unless you are a Surrey Officer. Surrey will be holding recruitment fairs for officers wishing to transfer across. Surrey need to recruit PC'S into uniformed response roles as they are haemoraging new recruits leaving faster than they join. Transferees are there to make up the numbers and that is it.
