Pros

The work is interesting and the clients are great to work with.

Cons

Perpetually short-staffed, with high turnover; top heavy - all but 3 employees are “leadership,” training was negligible, processes are a mess, there’s no traffic or project management or estimating of workload by time needed to complete tasks (I once had 20 hours worth of work in a single day required to keep projects on timeline - obviously timelines were blown and I was blamed as a result), and the people.

I hear you, and I appreciate your honesty. Looking back, I can say with full transparency that this was a tough time in Swim’s history, and some of the challenges you described were real. Being short-staffed, struggling with processes, and having unrealistic workloads were not sustainable—nor were they aligned with the kind of company I wanted Swim to be. Because of that, we made sweeping changes. We completely restructured our approach to workload management—our teams now work standard 8-hour days, and if someone is overwhelmed, there is never a shortage of people willing to jump in and help. There is a resounding presumption of goodwill here now, and no one ever has to carry the weight alone. We also became laser-focused on work-life balance. Not only do we support remote work, but we’ve aligned our PTO policies with those of colleges and universities, ensuring our team has the time they need for holidays, sick days, personal days, and mental health days. This isn’t just a perk; it’s a priority. Swim today is not the Swim of the past. We’ve grown, we’ve learned, and we’ve built a culture where people genuinely enjoy working together. I’m sorry that wasn’t the experience you had, but I truly appreciate the opportunity to reflect, improve, and do better. I wish you all the best in your career and thank you for sharing your perspective.

The worst company I've ever worked for.

Pros

The work we do can be extremely impactful.

Cons

This was the most toxic environment I've ever worked for. Upper management continues to give unrealistic deadlines because they're only concerned about money. They continue to over promise and under deliver. When you first join the team you get the "white glove" treatment but once you've been apart of the team for a month, they consider you a seasoned employee and all the niceness goes away. You spend majority of your time stressed out or getting cursed out by upper management. Most people only last about 3 months. Upper management will always tell you to "hold on, things will get better" but trust me, they never do. Even if you look at their website, no one listed on the teams page is even there anymore. There is no work life balance, even though that's something they preach during the interview process. You will be working at least 10 hours a day. I wish I was making this up. Even when you're on vacation, you will be receiving calls from upper management left and right. All upper management does is talk about everyone. They're extremely fake. They will smile in your face and say they "love you" and "they're so happy you're apart of the team" and when you make ONE mistake they treat you as if you're the ugly step child. You will sit on calls and get ridiculed by upper management. This is not something they do in private. They will do this in front of the entire team. Upper management will try to pin you against your colleagues or they will try to push you out the company by purposely making you feel uncomfortable, so you will quit and the company won't have to pay unemployment. The compensation isn't even close to the amount of hours you work. It honestly should be illegal, but upper management will try to sell on the "it shouldn't matter how much you make, it should be about the work we do". I would never recommend this company to anyone but I will say after leaving this company I now know what I don't want in my new company and I will be doing by due diligence to ensure that I don't end up at another toxic company like this again. The people that are referring candidates to this company should really stop because you're setting us up for emotional, mental and physical distress.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I want to start by saying that I hear you, and I deeply regret that this was your experience at Swim Digital Group. While I do not know who wrote this, I never wanted this company to be a place where anyone felt this way. Your feelings are valid, and I recognize that this was a time in Swim’s history that I am not proud of. Over the past two years, we have taken meaningful steps to address the issues that led to these concerns. We’ve invested heavily in restructuring our organization, improving communication, refining our processes, and prioritizing leadership training to ensure that our team feels valued, supported, and empowered. Work-life balance is no longer just something we talk about—it’s something we actively protect. These efforts have resulted in a 98% staff retention rate and a workplace culture where people are excited to come to work, collaborate, and make a difference for the students and institutions we serve. While no organization is perfect, we remain committed to learning, growing, and fostering an environment where our team members feel respected and appreciated. I appreciate your honesty and wish you nothing but success in your career.

Pros

Job security depends more on enthusiasm for the culture than on performance. If you consistently communicate how amazing everything is, you’ll likely do well here.

Cons

Independent thinkers and experienced operators are not encouraged, as they are less likely to participate in performative praise of leadership or be easily influenced. The culture rewards agreeableness and flattery over skill and integrity. Employees who value transparency, autonomy, and professional standards often find themselves misaligned very quickly.
