Pros

The non management members of the team were lovely and supportive, and still support me now, after being unfairly dismissed.

Cons

This could take a while. I was working at the council from the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2021. I went to work from home, and had constant good reviews on my performance. At the end of 2020, I had issues with a new manager, and asked for a meeting, which was ignored. Because of this I raised a grevience, and was dismissed shortly after, for reasons i had no prior warning of. I have had an awful time as a result of this, working at Swindon Borough a council has honestly caused so much harm to my mental health. I still talk to my ex colleagues, who tell me management are all awful. I have a disability, and mental health issues, which they knew about, and when I started having issues, they offered no adjustments. The HR department are just as bad, they only care about management, and are only there to support them. From working there over 2 years I knew of 2 people raising greviences, around the way management and HR had treated them. Management also discuss other members of staff in a negative manor in front of colleagues. Steer clear, for your own sanity

Pros

Not a lot. Some flexibility for childcare

Cons

Awful management, rewarding those who suck up and ignoring anyone who actually wants to make a positive improvements at greater than a geological rate of change. I had a very poor working environment - unhygienic and thoroughly run down. Don't trust HR, they are unprofessional puppets and do their masters bidding with utter disregard for the needs of the workers.

Pros

Flexible working hours are available, some managers have an issue with allowing staff to finish early or take the time back off and consider the use of using flexi time to be a weapon they can use to control staff members.

Cons

Poor management, to many people in management roles, simply because they have been there so long, these managers have little or no management training or experience. There can be a real resistance to change if it doesn’t suit a managers way of working, if your managers don’t like working from home then you will meet resistance and if your managers don’t like flexi time then you won’t be able to use it. The CEO of SBC acts like a Head mistress rather than a professional with management experience, her favourite activities include belittling people at staff events, singling people out at staff briefings and shouting at people who don’t address her properly as CEO. The CEO or Suzy Kemp the miscounting leader as she has become known (Google her counting skills) seems surprised that staff don’t feel comfortable sitting anywhere near the front of one of her, I am the CEO look at me events. Despite the country only just coming out of Lockdown she still insisted on organising a staff briefing, the staff who attended found chairs strapped to one another, making distancing impossible due to the number of people there, surprisingly this lead to a break out of COVID.
