Pros

Are there any? I get to wear a cool outfit to work I get to be unprofessional just like this company

Cons

I currently work for one of their hotel/hostels and am so dissatisfied that I'm writing on glassdoor to warn people to steer clear of anything owned by sydell. Where to begin? Let's see, abuse is part of the job. People abuse and yell at front desk agents when our hands are tied. The problem: management is cheap. Sydell doesn't care about providing their guests with a wonderful experience, they want to cut corners and increase revenue. who gets the blame? the people at the bottom. Pay is beyond terrible. Hours are consistently cut and their hotels are understaffed (they have to save money!)

Unpaid expense checks, will cheat employees on incentives, Sydell not interested in any of the employees- nor in on property management, cut corners when renovating the hotel, would not rid hotel of cockroaches and management lied to groups and guests

Pros

I was very excited to work at the Freehand, I was there for about a year. Its a beautiful building in a great location. It's a union building so all front desk agents, housekeepers, and engineering teams are union workers not sure if that's really pro unless you have children. - Lots of hours - cool coworkers - very artsy place

Cons

This is where it gets fun, my whole year at freehand the style of management reminded me of my first job in retail at my local mall. Im not sure if its cause the location recently opened but there NO STRUCTURE. Working there has affected my mental health, they don't care about a work life balance. - You will have no life - Management is rude and unprofessional - Its always a blame game, no one takes accountability for their mistakes. - Even though my previous position was union and ALOT of union dues + taxes were taken out of my checks. Management doesn't care about the union contract they will still favor and accommodate to their fav employees and business needs - no empathy - cults environment/ or very BRO-ish - there's no life outside of work - not really room to grow unless you're friends with some one or a favorite. -hard work will not be recognized
