Pros

The ONLY pro was the close retlationships built by the incredible people doing the actual work.

Cons

Way to many to write here but overall the major cons were: - The EXTREME disconnect between management and the incredible employees producing quality work even though every project was told to us that it is “rush, rush, rush” - The turn over rate, even for agency life was insane. (That should tell management something isn’t working, but why would they want to listen to their unhappy employees...) - Insane micromanaging and if you weren’t on the “inside”, there was nothing you could do that was good enough. Which consequently created an uncomfortable work environment. - ZERO discretion from upper management as it pertained to evaluating mid and lower level employees. - Constant “passing the buck”. - Zero effort to create an efficient and happy team environment. Always expected to work not only till 8-9 pm every weekday but the same was expected EVERY weekend as well. ZERO work/life balance. And yet, we were told to only bill 40 hours a week. It was just an overall hostile work environment based on outdated processes and upper management who were condescending and not as intelligent as they believed themselves to be. Stay away.

A Comedy of Errors

Pros

The people with boots on the ground tend to be awesome, hardworking, sincerely kind people. And since a new one leaves every 2 weeks, you will build up a great network of people that you will stay in touch with and likely end up working with again. If you’re remote, you’ll get to spend a lot of time in your house, where your family will watch you slowly become a shell of your former self.

Cons

- No process. - Any attempts at developing one are squashed by upper management. (Since previous employees did things this way, we must continue doing it. We don’t know any other way, and we don’t want to hear how it’s done elsewhere.) - Everything is on fire all the time. No matter what is said in a status meeting, or what work you had on your plate in the morning, by 5 pm there will be some super-hot emergency job that needs to happen ASAP. - Nine times out of ten, that emergency will have been caused by the downstream effects of there being no process. The other 1 time, it’s because no one sets realistic expectations with clients. - Being expected to work long nights and most weekends. Being seen as uncooperative for telling upper management that you can’t put in those hours. - Looking forward to being able to see your spouse and children over the winter “break,” only to be told that there is still an epic workload that needs to be managed. - Being told to be billable 40 hours a week (but not being able to bill non-billable time for meetings or downtime, and often not being able to bill to over budget jobs). - Being told to make up PTO time. (That’s right. If you’re taking a week off next month, you need to work 40 extra hours before you go.) - Receiving the twice-monthly HR email telling you another coworker is gone with no notice. (I’m not sure what all the secrecy is about with these emails, either. We’re all pretty close, and we find out the real story very quickly.) - The retreats, where they bring everyone to Lexington and pretends none of the above is happening and tell us how great the company is doing. The good news is that you won’t have to hear much of this, because you’ll be in the hallway of the conference room half the time trying to meet deadlines that haven’t been adjusted to allow for the retreat. - Being reprimanded for your negativity when you attempt to address any of this with upper management. - Being given no tools to succeed, and then everyone being surprised when things fail.

The sad truth

Pros

• The salary and benefits will likely be on the high end of the scale for the area, but understand that it comes at a significant cost. • There's a lot of very talented people here, though that number is dwindling quickly from high turn over. • It's a really nice office, but you'll most likely be living there so it really needs to be. • With a post office and grocery within walking distance, you probably could live there!

Cons

If you had previously left on your own accord - you made the right decision and are without a doubt happier for it. If you were laid off or otherwise restructured/downsized/canned or disavowed - it might not look like it in the immediacy of the moment, but everyone that has left is happier and, more importantly healthier. Consider yourself blessed. If you’re still holding on, still living on your anti-depressants and still believing everything that gets served up in those Friday staff meetings - know that there are still plenty of opportunities out there where you’ll be treated better, and live healthier. They are desperately trying to squelch all the abhorrent commentary with the standard response of ‘it’s just growing pains’ but the reality is the boat is already under water and you simply can’t move the bucket fast enough.
