1. There are some fresh, original learnings, but even that is short-lived as you hit a learning plateau quickly, and after that your learning sort of fizzles out. So hardly the most intellectually stimulating environment, in my opinion. After a while, the work becomes painfully monotonous. The scope of research is very limited and almost poor. You're looking at the same things each day, every day. On most days it is just a glorified data entry job. You will have daily deliverables, which means you will have to hit a certain goal each day and every day, making your work even more boring. 2. Poor work culture- Poor decision making, poor and one-way communication resulting in conflicting work objectives, confusing chains of command, defensive managers, lack of empathy, inability to delegate due to trust issues, and severe-severe micromanagement. The research team's manager often oversteps his bounds. I've seen a lot of conflict between coworkers, b/w employees, and managers, as well as petty groupism. There is just a whole lot of simmering discontent overall. 3. There are literally no standard work policies at Synaptic and absolutely no long term vision- The leadership in the Bangalore office constantly tries and changes the direction of the team and creates tension among employees and confusion. This is a startup & hence the show is run by a few handfuls of people and as a result decisions are made on the fly. A common running joke within the teams is that if you're gone for a week, you could come back to a whole new set of policies and processes with respect to work. 4. Compensation for the research role is a joke! Enough said. In conclusion, joining the research team at Synaptic should be a short pitstop.
