Pros

Great coworkers, fun company-wide activities.

Cons

Can only speak for IT, but management styles are out of touch and staff are treated horribly. Supervisors hover and treat employees like children who can't be trusted (have actually heard one say as much). Condescending memos are sent to entire teams for the mistakes of one or two bad employees, who are never dealt with individually. The Help Desk is operated like a call center which ties our hands from performing any quality tech support and gives the rest of the company a poor impression. Call lengths are expected to be less than 7 minutes, we have a whole 60 seconds to type a ticket, and escalated tickets sit in next level queues for days. Most of us have the knowledge and talent to resolve a lot more than we do, but we are not allowed the time or the access to do so. The Help Desk staff member on call after hours is expected to remain available and ready for calls any time of day or night, UNPAID, for a full week at a time, during which no activities are permitted which would place us in a noisy environment or away from the phone for more than 15 minutes - again we are NOT PAID for this time and we ARE non-exempt employees. Synovus avoids paying overtime for any calls taken by sending the employee home early from their regular shift. The reasoning for the end to overtime pay was given as an insulting comparison between the company's budget and the budget of an average employee living paycheck to paycheck. They drag their feet to do the bare minimum legally required to compensate employees, and that is only after HR is contacted or threats are made to contact the DOL.

Pros

Nothing. I have nothing good to say about you other than the supervisor for consumer loan review is a great supervisor. Everyone else is trash.

Cons

Avoid working here if at all possible. If you must work for Synovus then at least stay away from Atlanta Loan Operations, spare yourself the headache, you are literally better off working at Wal-mart. Grab a soda and popcorn because we are going to be here a while. I started as a temp in 2016. I was guaranteed a permanent position if I worked hard and at least met my goals. A friend of mine was a temp here too and was told the same thing. We both exceeded our goals and were top performers. We did everything they asked and yet they never hired us due to “lack of experience”, which is a fancy way of saying that they are too lazy to train. Time and again we were passed up for someone outside the company. Those should’ve been red flags but we ignored them because we wanted to work for this bank so badly. My friend was on another team that was ran by an idiot who had control issues and may have been racist, but I’m going to say allegedly because there isn’t enough proof to back that up. Another red flag was the fact that that particular manager would fire any and everyone for the smallest reasons and without mercy. One gentleman nodded off at work accidentally due to the meds he took due to an auto accident, and without warning or compassion he was fired immediately. But the messed up part about that situation was that she had a gentleman (also a temp) on her team who was constantly falling asleep and making errors, but she kept him on board. More on that guy later. Eventually I got moved to another team as a temp and so was my friend. My friend and I were top performers on our new teams as well and while I was able to get a permanent position, my friend wasn’t. The person that ran her team was an idiot too. When Synovus abruptly cancelled the temp contracts and went with a different temp agency, all temps were let go including my friend. She applied for permanent positions for both teams she worked and was turned down. The first team she worked for turned her down for the guy that constantly fell asleep, and hired him at a higher level, as of now, this guy is a team lead. The second team turned her down because the manager didn’t like her due to her being quiet in nature. She claimed it was due to lack of experience, but the other candidate had the same amount of experience. Needless to say, she was jobless for a month and a half. The first team eventually reluctantly hired her but at a lower level with less pay. Again she was a top performer but that didn’t matter. Everyone after her got hired at higher levels with higher pay right off the street. That brings me to another point, there were people there for the longest time who worked there for years that were still at level one and were top performers. When HR got wind of the mess over at ALO, they did absolutely nothing. Eventually everyone was promoted to level 2 but with no raise, just to be petty. The pay is awful! It is below industry standard for the job position and when we ask HR and management for a serious raise, they give us tiny merit increase of 18 cents and call it a day. They will make sure that you feel YOU DON’T MATTER. They constantly pile on work and create unnecessary stress with these goals that shouldn’t exist for post closing and projects that consists of doing other people’s jobs and cleaning their messes for very little pay. But the ones who make the most mistakes (the bankers and tellers) get a slap on the wrist and bonuses. When we make mistakes at ALO, it is the end of the world. And don’t let your loan breach SLA, management will write you up so fast, again this is post closing, 50 days after a loan is closed. For team appreciation week ALO got more work piled on and a snickers bar, while precious Overton and other branches got spa days, catering and other nice gifts. Now normally this wouldn’t matter, but the fact that you guys already treat us horribly, and don’t pay us, this pathetic team appreciation week just adds insult to injury when other branches get pampered as if they don’t have work to do as well. I literally heard the administrative assistant say that for team appreciation week we should only spend $10 a person. As of right now, the team that I was on has tons of unnecessary overtime, endless projects due to the FCB merger, and they have to cross train with other teams with NO PAY INCREASE!!! Management is biased and they play favorites. Fortunately my immediate supervisor was awesome, I just wish he could work somewhere that deserves his talents. I feel this would be better expressed in a video. All of the good employees are leaving due to lack of appreciation and pay. To the rest of Synovus and that greedy CEO, we were “a cost center” so that justified them treating us as less than humans. Well I won’t be another entry on your spreadsheet anymore. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Also I don’t know how on earth they got “best bank to work for” in 2018 when they treat us so terribly.

Pros

Nice, at least on this surface, coworkers at the staff level Team building exercises like pot luck lunches Coworkers frequently bring in treats like doughnuts Coworkers are quick to help each other out, like if someone's car breaks down Family friendly work place, for Halloween everyone brings their kids into the office for trick or treating Food vendors cater lunch everday at a very reasonable cost Nice, newly renovated office space Free daily parking in the nearby garage

Cons

Lots of old software systems that desperately in need of replacement, and have excessive downtime Too much emphasis on slick marketing and too little emphasis placed on uptime and reliability of software systems Excessive night and weekend work on changes and updates Middle of the night calls on a daily basis Frequent night and weekend on call work No extra compensation for off hours work Terrible middle and upper management in Information Technology department Complete lack of documentation Ineffective communication Expectations from management are never communicated, they expect you to be a mind reader Ineffective change control, changes and upgrades are rushed into production full of bugs, with even very basic things like share permissions not provisioned Constant outages and downtime Basic work tools like a company provided cell phone are not provided, they expect you to use the phone and resources YOU pay for in order to do your job No time for personal life, your life is Synovus Complete lack of professionalism at all levels of the Information Technology department Too few staff that are qualified for their jobs Promotions based purely on who you know, Synovus has a long and troubled history of this
