Pros

Most employees are able to work from home.

Cons

The senior leadership was attempting to sell the company to a new VC fund and decided to cut costs to make the deal look better. However, the primary cost cutting measures was to lay off good employees and replace them with off-shore resources in India. Unfortunately, senior leadership did not understand the highly specialized nature of many areas within the business and now over a year later the off-shores resources are little more than a drag on efficiency and we no longer have the good employees who once made the company appealing to clients. To make matters worse, the leadership rushed a shoddy product out the door and now we look foolish in the eyes of our clients because they purchase extremely expensive software that simply does not work as advertised. When you are the person standing in front of the client explaining to them time and time again that what they bought is not what we are delivering it starts to weigh on you. You begin to feel like a liar or a failure. Until the new product release we as consultants could always solve the problems, but that is no longer an issue.

Pros

Benefits are still relatively good.

Cons

Syntellis is paying the price for having hired the worst CEO I have worked under. He may have been fired close to a year ago, but the damage he left behind is lasting. And we have some awful managers who aren’t leaders and have no vision. They’re a bunch of corporate hacks content with patting each other’s backs while we deal with their conflicting messages, platitudes, frustrated customers, and an outsized employee mass exit that HR denies ever took place. A lot of the vertical software is old and disjointed. It’s functional, but complex, rigid and cryptic to learn, expensive to implement, with multiple, diverse UIs that do not synchronize without a lot of manual intervention. Some of the newer higher ed stuff is nice, but that vertical is struggling. The banking partnership is on life support and our talent has left. Healthcare is the biggest vertical, and their newer stuff looks better on the surface, but is effectively a remake of their legacy change products. Recreating the same disconnected, incomplete set of features and functions with newer tech is a weird plan. But since the same people who ran change into the ground are now running Syntellis, it’s all but over. What we still need is market oriented leadership that understand present and future challenges.

Pros

- The people employed or at least the ones left are incredibly wonderful - Remote work - Most clients are a joy to work with

Cons

- Thoma Bravo has completely run this company into the ground. They think this is a traditional IT/software company where anyone can do the work. Reality check: it’s not possible. The product is not good enough to offshore implementations and is far from that point. - Clients choose Syntellis for the expert consultants, not offshore resources with high turnover to do the work. The amount of times I heard that Syntellis pays the average “software” employee more than the rest of the market = some seriously skewed data. You cannot compare employees out of college or off-shore to consultants with 10-20 years of experience. - People are treated as work horses and can rarely enjoy PTO. Except when top leadership are on PTO, they are completely MIA. Amazing how that works! - The out of the box software is full of defects and clients are forced into this box of the “Syntellis” way. Not enough flexibility and the software is on a dying/slowwwww platform. - Bonuses are reliant on targets completely out of the persons control. Consultant should not rush implementations because sales sold at a low ball rate, in order to hit targets for bonus.
