Hell in a fab.

Pros

1) your children gets your CPF pretty early. 2) the garden is pretty nicely done. 3) with lifeline from TSMC and NXP, the company won't die. But under Jagadish, see (1).

Cons

1) The management only promotes those who are obedient like dogs. 2) The place is full of office politics, getting work done have to go through so many layers. It is a waste of time and efforts. 3) OT are a norm. On paper, the manager will keep sending reminders to submit OT claims, in reality, most are rejected coz already hit quota, and those getting paid are manager's pets. 4) Skip PM, fakes PM, extend PM are a norm. Fake PM by logging a fake timing in the system. It's really a first time I see it in a fab, SSMC is constantly doing it. 5) Work life balance is non-existent. During work, WhatsApp keep ringing, constantly asking about status, coz the manager needs to update in production meeting. After work, WhatsApp continues to ring. sooo many different groups pull you in. Regardless you're sleeping, weekend, on leave, MC or dead, your phone will ring when the line have issues. 6) Company withholding bonus, split it into half, and delay giving so that you will not get it when u throw letter.

The Other Side of the Story

Pros

I would like to present the other side of the story, after reading multiple bad feedback on this company that I have worked with for over a decade. The company was plagued with many problems in recent years. The Pros is that there is actually still a dedicated group of people who have the right mindset and determination to change course and weed out the rotten portion of the workforce. This process of changing mindset and culture is tough. For the people who want to continue slacking and do the bare minimum and still get paid, life is getting tough. I have seen many slackers leaving the company as the Company is no longer good for sleeping during nightshift, staying in the office the whole night when you should be in the fab doing your job. What do you think about such people who collect salary and then sleep on the job? What do you think is their mindset to begin with? These are the people who are rotten and have bad attitude. And what do these people do when they leave the company due to the company tightening the grip on them? They leave with anger, as if it was the company's fault. And they then come to this platform to vent their frustrations.

Cons

Let's be realistic. Cost cutting, austerity measures during tough times, trying to squeeze out more productivity are things practiced by all companies. If you were to run your own company, would you not try to maximize profits? Would you not tighten your belt when times are tough? These are the same things that any reasonable management would do. I would probably say that we are just much more aggressive and determined to make things work. In a way, that also created pressure and stress or the so called lack of work life balance that you have seen in multiple feedbacks. There is some truth in that which cannot be denied, but a large part of it has been blown out of proportions as well. Some remarks were clearly written in jest, such as the one with the Game of Thrones theme.
