Great location and talented colleagues, but outdated systems
Pros
- One of the best office locations possible in Montreal. - Great, talented people working at the Canadian office. - Average benefits package (health insurance 50/50, 80% drug coverage, 3% RRSP match, monthly public transport discount).
Cons
- 10+ years of legacy projects: You will definitely be working with outdated systems where modern AI tools won't be able to help you much. Documentation and specs are heavily outdated. - The AI Hype vs. Reality: Management is trying to push everything onto "AI rails" without modernizing the actual engineering processes first. It reaches a point where you are expected to fully utilize your monthly token limits; if you don't, you might be perceived as an underperforming developer, regardless of the quality of your work. - Security & Tech Debt: Rigid, outdated security policies combined with a legacy stack block any industry best practices. Instead of implementing modern solutions, you'll be constantly forced to build "dirty fixes" and workarounds - Unlimited PTO (mostly a cost-saving measure): Vacation no longer accrues, meaning there is little or no unused PTO payout upon departure. Despite being marketed as "unlimited," most employees take only 2–3 weeks off per year in practice.
