Lots of cut-backs and layoffs in the past couple of years. Always feel an underlying since of "will I be next" that makes it a little stressful. The company functions like a startup, even though they have been around for quite a while. Speed is definitely desired over planning, and process. On the surface that might seem like a pro, but living it has definitely been frustrating. I will say we try to make things better, but speed always wins out and the code often times shows it.
I also was promised a path of career growth during my interviews that is non-existent. There isn't anywhere to move up and with all the cut backs, I don't imagine my pay will continue to be great. I just came in at a time that they were throwing money at candidates, so that's a bit of a buffer, however recent inflation is being felt hard. And the cut back on our 401k, is more or less a pay cut.
