Concerns about life and work balance

Pros

Great team members all around the world!

Cons

I've worked at Talent for quite some time now, and while I appreciate the opportunity to work with a talented team, I’m compelled to express our deep concerns about the impact of labor policies and lack of leadership on our physical and mental well-being, as well as that of our colleagues in Colombia and possibly other offices. We've been required to work overtime and weekends for months without receiving additional compensation, not even the minimum required by law. This is unfair and affects our financial stability. However, what's more concerning is the impact on our health: chronic stress, fatigue, anxiety, and depression have become common among us. Our leaders seem inexperienced and/or fearful of reporting the situation to the line of leadership below the CTO, and we fear retaliation if we speak up or contradict the CTO’s instructions. We can't approach HR directly without risking our positions. The CTO is aware of our situation, but doesn't seem to care. His actions suggest that he doesn't prioritize our well-being. The addition of a small team from another country, which happened some months ago, has created challenges due to the significant time zone difference. Although they are not that many people, the dependence on their work has become a bottleneck, forcing us to work, reprocess and/or ending attending meetings outside our regular hours. This is exacerbated by the fact that the CEO and other executives are in a different time zone, and their schedules are prioritized over ours. Furthermore, we feel that the CTO (who we admire) views us as mere resources, rather than human beings. This lack of empathy and understanding is concerning. While we embrace diversity, we can't shake off the feeling that we're disposable and might be replaced. It seems that our concerns could and are being used against us, fueling the notion that current professionals are not capable, which is unfair and unjust. The signs are there, and it's exhausting to feel that our performance is being scrutinized to justify hiring elsewhere. Despite our efforts and dedication, we've reached a critical point. We've been working non-stop for several months, sacrificing time with our families and affecting our health. We love this company and value our jobs, but we need change. We hope this review will be a wake-up call for the executive team to reflect on the impact of their decisions on employee well-being. We're committed to the company's success, but we also want to be valued and respected as individuals. We hope they'll take our concerns seriously and work with us to find solutions.

From Promise to Disappointment

Pros

As per today there is nothing positive to say about this company.

Cons

I had the privilege of being a part of this company from its early startup days, a promising venture that seemed poised for greatness. The atmosphere was electric, innovation was at the core of everything we did, and the team was incredibly talented. However, what could have been a success story quickly turned into a nightmare. After a successful fundraising round, everything appeared to be on the right track. However, that's when things started to take a turn for the worse. Questionable decisions were made by the leadership, veering the company away from its initial mission. The most glaring change was the mass layoffs that followed the fundraising (3 rounds). Suddenly, many talented and dedicated colleagues were let go without warning. The company's atmosphere deteriorated rapidly. Employee morale hit rock bottom as everyone feared being the next in line for layoffs. Promising projects were put on hold, and innovation was sacrificed for short-term profitability. Internal communication became non-existent, broken promises piled up, and the company's ethics were called into question. It was heart-wrenching to witness a company with so much potential transform into an empty shell of what it once was. In the end, I cannot recommend this company to anyone seeking a stable and fulfilling work environment. It lost its soul after the fundraising, and the initial vision that had inspired all of us was completely abandoned. It's a sad tale of what can happen when money takes precedence over passion and mission Ps: Don’t trust the recent positive reviews, they were strangely written in the same week as the massive layoffs …

Mismanaged, blinded, and frivolous

Pros

Flexible Time Off Policy: The company offers a flexible time off policy for some. Opportunities for Continued Learning (Team Dependent): In certain teams, there is access to continued learning and professional development. However, this is not consistent across all teams and not for everyone within the team.

Cons

A highly political environment characterizes the company's culture, particularly surprising given its medium size. Career progression and success often hinge more on personal relationships with the CEO and upper management than on merit or performance. This political landscape creates an uneven playing field and can be demoralizing for those not in the inner circle. The company's priorities often seem misplaced, with a noticeable emphasis on hiring and firing high-profile C-level executives from big companies. This approach has overshadowed the need to address the core issues plaguing the company, resulting in frequent firings and a lack of strategic direction. Leadership and vision from upper management are concerning areas. There appears to be a lack of clear, cohesive vision and a deficit in the capability to execute plans effectively. To address this, our CEO gave everyone a one-pager with a one sentence vision and mission, which unsurprisingly didn't resolve anything at all. Goals and targets often come across as arbitrary, leaving teams to grapple with these challenges without adequate support or direction. Middle management at the company presents its own set of problems. Many middle managers are young and lack the necessary experience, leading to poor decision-making, leadership challenges, and a propensity for favoritism and friendships coupled with childish behavior and unprofessionalism. The company's financial responsibility, particularly following a significant influx of funding, has been questionable. The apparent mismanagement of these funds led to drastic actions, including massive layoffs and the shutting down of offices, which suggests a lack of foresight and strategic planning while blaming it on the market. Spending wild amounts of money on company parties and flights to send sales people all over the world and opening expensive offices for small teams. One of the most concerning aspects is the company's work culture, especially in certain offices. This culture has fostered a toxic environment where inappropriate comments and behaviors are not uncommon. When such issues are raised to management, the responses are often dismissive or trivializing, which only perpetuates the problem. This has made the bad seeds feel vindicated and cheered on by those who subscribe to the culture. The company's approach to handling layoffs and the aftermath has been particularly insensitive, especially considering these were massive layoffs of almost half of the company. Employees who were previously praised as top performers were abruptly let go, often leaving them blindsided. The tone from upper management post-layoffs, which painted a rosy picture of the company's future, demonstrated a troubling lack of awareness and empathy for those affected. Recently, there has been a noticeable shift towards prioritizing short-term profits over genuine product improvements. This short-sighted approach is detrimental to the company's long-term success and innovation. Post-layoffs, there has been an observable increase in employee dissatisfaction and a decline in motivation, particularly in certain offices. This issue has not been adequately addressed by upper management, which is evident in the growing number of employees choosing to leave on their own accord for better employment opportunities. Regarding compensation, salaries appear to be 15-20% below the market average for average employees, with raises being infrequent and largely reserved for those close to management. There is a significant pay gap between employees with some managers receiving ridiculous amounts of money considering their incompetence and lack of work ethic. This disparity in pay is a significant concern and contributes to the overall dissatisfaction among employees. Lastly, career growth within the company seems to depend heavily on being in the right place at the right time rather than on a structured and transparent career progression plan. There is a lack of mechanisms to help employees envision their future within the company and work towards promotion goals. The company is riddled with the significant challenges in its workplace culture, leadership, and employee treatment. Potential employees should consider these factors, but overall I would advise not to join this company.
