Business outlook

Pros

1. Great people and sense of community within the SOC. 2. Flexible working hours and working from home permitted. 3. Easily accessible office in the city centre close to Leeds train station. 4. Work with some of the best in the industry. 5. Very mature policies, standards and procedures considering the size of the business. 6. Employee forum was a good shout and has led to a lot of feedback finally being heard. 7. Management within the SOC are really supportive of those under them when they have the time to be. 8. Many social events available for those who wish to partake. 9. Diversity and inclusion is taken very seriously, as it should be. 10. Service being provided has real potential and is something employees are very passionate about.

Cons

1. Growth has been slow. 2. Extremely high turnover rate with staff not being replaced after leaving. This has meant the workload is passed onto others, particularly to those who shouldn't be responsible for it. 3. Some teams/individuals appear to be negligent or incompetent at times, with little being done about it. This has created more stress and workload for others and a somewhat toxic, high stress environment with an us against them mentality. 4. No real career opportunities or progression. 5. Little to no effort is being put in to improve the service and value being provided despite employees feedback to management and multiple clear failings in parts of the business. All the time and effort appears to be being spent trying to keep the current service running which has become more difficult due to a lot of resource leaving the business and not being replaced. 6. Remuneration is poor, no cash bonuses, internal rewards system isn't great and is being under utilised. Recognition is next to none existent other than the odd praise in a group chat. 7. Performance review process is poor and is moaned about every year, but never changes. If anything, it has gotten worse now you're not even allowed to see your feedback during the process. 8. Workload is way too high, morale is low ands keeps getting lower, people are constantly close to burnout and nothing appears to be being done about despite it being a constant issue over a long time frame. 9. Constant struggle to retain high value staff due to lack of competitive pay packages and career growth opportunities. 10. No training or certification opportunities offered. 11. Struggling to keep up with the industry and its offerings due to all of the above.

Talion Response
2y
Thank you for taking the time to offer such a detailed response. I am glad that you find the people and community great, the flexibility of the business shows how we value our people and again I am glad you recognise this. We are big on doing things the right way, and the employee forum allows the employees to be a voice in the business. In the current challenging market it is difficult with growth, but in comparison to competition and recognised by industry analysts Talion have been winning more than our competitors. Attrition in cyber at the moment is high across the industry but Talion is actually below the average, but I appreciate it is a changing workforce at times and this brings challenges, although I hope incompetency is not one of them. As you recognise yourself we are very polished in how we deliver services, so I like to think we identify challenges. We are completing some key changes in the business which is adding to stress levels and we hope to be through this in the short term, these are all for our future and the roles that we deliver to the market. I will disagree that no effort is put into career development and that feedback is not acted on, we have programs in place, even through the employee forum to meet these, we have done more promotions in the last 12 months than we did in the previous 3 years, and we continue to focus on our staff. Managers work through 1:1s with all staff to ensure that we understand feelings and ambitions. If this is not happening for you I would encourage you to reach out to a line manager, or a member of the leadership team. I do appreciate the cost of living challenge and what this means, but like many organisations we cannot resolve this alone. We are working on the development of our teams, the accreditation's and training so if you are looking for something or have ideas, please share with your Line Manager. Once again thank you for such a well crafted review.
