Pros

Free products Convenient office location RRSP matching Made a few lifelong friends

Cons

People are afraid to give feedback. Micromanaging - little to no autonomy is given to employees in performing their job. Overworking is a badge of honour and is not only expected, but celebrated. Burnout is a real issue. Lack of opportunity for professional development and growth. Quarterly and yearly checkins with arbitrary goals/targets that often don’t fit into the bigger picture. And if you meet, or exceed your targets, they are just increased so that you have no longer met them. Little or strained interaction between employees and other employees or management. Social cliques, gossiping, toxic environment. Favouritism and office politics. Aggressive, condescending, bullying behaviour. Mental health is glossed over and not properly addressed. Staff are hesitant to take sick days in fear of falling behind. Overly concerned with “culture fit” in the hiring process, yet employees are not trusted.

Pros

Work with great brands - if you are interested in natural health and wellness. Very nice office with a great location. Decent compensation and good benefits. Some very nice people work here. Perks such as free lunches, parties, outings, etc. Discounts on some great products and quarterly freebies.

Cons

Although there are definitely perks to working here, the cons far outweigh the pros. When I worked here I experienced bullying and gossip. This is just a number of people - majority of people that work here are great, but some particular people here are bullies. There was no official HR department at the time (which is very strange considering the size of the company) so you cannot officially voice your concerns here. Work-life balance is terrible: you get 10 annual days (brought up to 15 days after THREE YEARS of working here...wow - someone give TallGrass a medal) of leave and the office remains open at Christmas. The CEO announces 1 extra day of vacation at Christmas at the town hall like he is giving everyone a million dollars - it is laughable. People seem to be scared to take vacation for anything longer than a few days. It was hard to even get a half day approved by certain managers, although I know some managers are more lenient, so it depends on what department you are in. Micro-managing with time schedules existed (pre-covid) - hours were 8.30am to 5 pm, and with certain managers, if you were any way outside of these hours you would be chastised. Also a culture of working overtime exists - I remember hearing the CEO remark on people that would leave at 5 pm, in quite a sneering way. Employees should be able to work set hours without being expected to stay longer, just because this is the ''culture'' - people have lives and responsibilities outside of the workplace! When I worked here, you also got a mere 3 sicks days a year, and certain managers would make you feel guilty for taking a sick day. Talk about ''wellness''! Staff here really are infantilized and not giving autonomy by certain (not all) managers.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. As you know the health and wellness of our team is very important and that picture of wellness looks different for each unique person. For some, that’s more vacation time to visit family overseas. For others, that’s time to pursue a passion through education with our education allowance. For others, that’s saving time on their commute to work from home and spend more time with family. And for others still, to pursue a new fitness goal with our wellness allowance. Our team members are unique and our goal is to develop a compensation and benefit plan that meets their needs. We hope you’ve found a role and company culture that fits your career and wellness needs.

Pros

Wellness account Medical/dental benefits Quarterly free products Provide remote work technology

Cons

Micromanagement and lack of leadership create a toxic work environment. Corporate fluff. What's stated in the handbook and the true actions do not align. Overworked and underpaid, seems to be the company's cultural norm. Expect to work overtime hours. High expectations of employees, however little recognition. Can have targets raised mid-year, where it can be a challenge to reach them. Manipulation from direct supervisor, one day you’re a favorite next day you’re an enemy. Lack of training, processes, and planning creates a nightmare for department organization. Management flip-flopping between ideas makes it hard to execute. Limited growth opportunities. Lack of company scope to plan for successful growth. Gossip. Lots of it.
