Pros

Overall the agency has great people working there and there are no problems between peers at the same level. The breadth of clients is great, and the studio and creative teams are really collaborative. There have been some great hires at AD levels, and there is lots to learn from them as they have come from really well respected agencies. The agency is situated at a good end of town for traffic and parking and Sue on reception is a real un-sung hero of the agency.

Cons

The senior leadership from CEO to BD are really chaotic and there isn't a uniformed way of them managing or leading the agency. They have a last min approach to everything, which causes them to be curt, snippy and expect work to be delivered last min, when with better planning there doesn't need to be such chaos. Consumer has really specific issues with 1-2 of the BD's being super rude and dismissive, but they know how to operate with the CEO's so they get away with bad behaviour, lateness and just overall poor management. As I learned the business used to be a lot smaller and the very senior management have been there a long time, I don't think that there is anyone there with the experience to really lead some of the size of account teams and the CEO's don't seem to see the problems as they are out of the business a lot.

Pros

Great clients which look great on your CV. Office is situated in a good location.

Cons

Tangerine isn’t the award-winning agency it claims to be - it’s a clique-driven environment disguised by shiny campaign wins and talk of “team culture.” Beneath the surface lies a toxic, draining atmosphere led by an in-crowd that shuts out anyone who doesn’t conform to their version of the “Tangerine way.” Infact, it’s almost comical to see it still marketed as “award-winning culture.” [Spoiler alert - it most certainly isn't]. Unpaid overtime is the norm, boundaries are ignored, and morale within teams is currently at an all-time low due to treatment. Staff turnover is extremely high, and those who stay often talk of feeling excluded, scapegoated, or simply burnt out. The agency is haemorrhaging business left, right and centre. Leadership are far more focused on appearances and PR awards than on supporting or retaining talented people. For an industry built on communication, it’s ironic how little listening goes on internally at Tangerine. Feedback is ignored, ideas are dismissed, there is blatant favouritism and anyone who speaks up or isn't seen as operating in the 'Tangerine way', risks being pushed out and isolated. The agency markets itself as a “fun, creative place to grow your career,” but in reality, it’s a high-turnover workplace built on a toxic culture of leaders, where wellbeing takes a back seat. There are far better agencies in Manchester that genuinely value their people and produce great work - I’d highly recommend exploring those instead.
