Pros

Get to work with the public and make a difference. The retirement is very good and even when the economy was at its worst there were no lay-offs.

Cons

Health insurance is not what is was, each year it has cost more and the benifyts have gone down. Most departments are good to work for EXCEPT District Clerk and IT, though Public Health is beggining make this list. Both departments have created a toxic and hostile work enviroment, especially IT. There is some senior leadership with no IT experience and they are makiing major decisions which has caused serious confusion within the organization. They say all the right words but do not follow through. The primary tool for motivating employees is to write them up so moral is at the lowest it has ever been and there does not seem to be any possibility of the situation improving anytime soon. Senior IT leadership also has a very low opinion of anyone who has been there for any length of time, EVERY senior leadership position has been filled by outside candidates, there is no potintial for existing employees to be promoted.

Pros

Great retirement benefits, decent pay and health benefits Workers take a lot of pride in their work

Cons

some abusive and unstable managers that know how to operate just above illegal so HR can't do anything about it. If exempt, may work long hours with no compensation Depends on the department but many have no opportunity to advance

Pros

good benefits which you can get with any department within Tarrant county.

Cons

Everything from the director's overbearing, childish tantrums to the clients that come into the office expecting handouts for not effort on their part. Not everyone that walks in to that office is that bad but the majority of them are. There are several cases in which people really do need the help but it is near impossible to actually help the ones that really need it. There are some really great people that work there but the work environment is stressful. If you're looking for a m-f standard full time hours, don't bother here. You will be expected to work over your time even if you get overtime hours, after a long day of getting yelled at from your boss and the clients, its not worth the hassle.
