Pros

Good people to suffer with

Cons

In my opinion this is a company that capitalized on the pandemic and those in need of a job. Preying on the individuals who simply needed to make a living and working them to the maximum of their capacity with very little pay. They have a knack for attracting highly skilled employees at $20 dollars an hour with the hopes you would perform above and beyond. Without a HR department, everything is ran through the 2 owners of the company. Highly disorganized, they sell this well put together organization but lack very little business knowledge and state labor laws. Reviews are skewed on the website. I saw that the scheme was to get as much money from the customer with very little done on our part. I found myself stressed and overwhelmed on a daily basis but the leadership was highly skilled in manipulating and making individuals feel as though they cared only to pocket as much profit as possible. I watched their sales over sell kits for events from what seemed to be a family home of a family of five ( children included) to prepare overpriced kits ($35 for a hot chocolate packet and candy cane). When unable to deliver thousands of kits. We were asked to draft emails blaming the pandemic because they were asked to discontinue working from a Airbnb owner they rented from when the family had to stop working from home, saying their "distribution center was shut down due to the pandemic". There was no stipend for internet though you continuously worked on it nor did I receive any office equipment. Pay was delayed because they simply didn't get it in by the deadline despite having a 1.6 million dollar revenue. My time came to an end with a resignation that did not get acknowledged for days and was asked to become a contractor which I agreed to until the next day I found my account were deactivated without a word from anyone from the Company. I can only assume this was a manipulation to avoid paying unemployment. I later learned over 50 other employees woke to less communication than me and simply had a emoji message sent and deactivated accounts.

Thanks for your feedback. There is no scheme at TeamBuilding. Our hosts and team put a lot of love and work into making sure that every client experience is world class. We did hire you during a very busy time, and before starting you said you were excited for that challenge. It's okay that it wasn't a fit for you, but your comments here about manipulation are surprising. In addition, we do have high expectations and do our best to compensate accurately for this. Your pay was $20 per hour for an entry level role, and you also earned gratuity, bonuses, and benefits. Generally, our people are happy with their pay, and we regularly review compensation to stay up to date. For example, you are correct that we did not have an internet stipend benefit. Our team requested this benefit and we've added a $50 per month stipend for full-time employees to cover those costs. For your other points: You were never paid late. You did receive a $100 per day bonus for extra time worked, which was paid separate from your regular paycheck. This bonus was in addition to overtime pay, which was part of the regular pay cycle. There are no children working for us. As you know, one of our longtime team members suggested employing her extended family as they needed work during the pandemic. The "children" are 18+ years old. The 50 employees you mentioned were seasonal hires. We were clear with communication at hiring and throughout their employment that it was a temporary role and would end. Finally, we would never intentionally manipulate the unemployment process. If you were not eligible for unemployment, it is likely because you resigned and left the country. Employee experiences are important to us, and we are constantly working to improve. Job applicant experiences are important too. For anyone considering a role at TeamBuilding, you are welcome to contact me at michael@teambuilding.com with any questions or concerns.

Good people, but terribly run company

Pros

Pros were the talented people on my team I got to meet and work with. Added better benefits once we repeatedly asked for them, gave us fluffy monthly perks (only to help to hide terrible management and low pay).

Cons

Teambuilding is a company designed to 'bring teams together' when in reality they treat their employees like underpaid workhorses, ignore market trends, and like many startups, operate without direction or organization most of the time. There is a massive sense of toxic positivity here that if you aren't following along with the status quo, you are not favored. If you offer any negative feedback or alternative suggestions on restructuring things or event ideas, you are accused of being abrasive or negative. They recently laid off half of their sales team because of 'downsizing,' but in reality it was because of poor management and lack of foresight in market trends. (Are company wide layoffs really 'bringing teams together' here?) The layoffs were half of the sales team and members of nearly every other department, and it was done so with a complete lack of class, and zero compassion for the team members both losing their jobs and the ones remaining. The profiles of the laid-off employees were deactivated mid meeting as their manager was letting them go, it was very quick and cold, the opposite of what their mantra is all about. Their core values are centered around integrity and having your back...This action was done with zero integrity, the team was told to their faces by the leadership (and in writing) that our jobs were secure 2 months ago, and there would be no layoffs. They didn't even bother to have HR or upper management at the meeting. The leadership here is so disorganized and there are constant departures. In the year and a half I worked there we never had an HR person until about a month ago. Interesting timing to onboard an HR person and then fire most of your staff a couple of weeks later... The leadership of the two people running the company is poorly organized at best and they are clearly a couple that had a great idea and are trying to squeeze as much money out of it as possible before it implodes. They play extreme favorites to the ones that suck up to them the most and particularly to the event hosts (the best creative talent this company has). They pull the classic start-up move trying to give their employees cute perks like lifestyle credits and branded swag, telling us we are rockstars every day!!! When most of the team really is trying to push for things like fully paid maternity and paternity leave, better health insurance, and better compensation plans for the sales reps. The sales reps are overlooked constantly, while the event hosts are continuously celebrated and revered, it was extremely cliquey and so painfully obvious in all-hands meetings what teams were favored and what teams were ignored and not cared for. The sales team worked their butts off selling the product often without much training, (some events are honestly terrible offerings but the sales team does a great job selling them to clients often without any or little training, no idea of the event agenda, and unclear about when it can be offered). The commission structure was increasingly taken away from us while I worked there, and given back to the company (aka, the leaders). They took away compensation from us and put it back into their own pockets through a restructuring of what counted as a rep's commission - which always resulted in outrage from the team and many questions asked, but always denied. I have no idea what will happen to this company since many people are returning to work, given how it was running when I was laid off I can't imagine it will succeed for much longer. For the companies that are staying remote - this brand is not staying relevant since the management isn't keeping up fast enough to come up with any new virtual events for clients. I wouldn't be shocked if they continued on their greed warpath and sold it to a competitor, and/or reopened their parent company. I hope you treat the current employees better than you did to the talent you laid off. The ONLY thing I am grateful for is the amazing sales team who fought for severance for those of us that were laid off. It was given to us post-firing along with a lame apology on how poorly they mishandled things, admitting they were harsh and apologized for lying to us 2 months ago. At least they know they handled it atrociously.

Pros

They put on a good act about caring about their employees, I'll give them that!

Cons

There is zero management. The "owners" are just a couple of people who fell backwards into a company someone else built! They talk a good game about caring about their people and caring about the items they send out but the reality is, they care about money and nothing more! Oh, and after working over 210 hours for them in the past month how was I treated? I was LAID OFF a week before Christmas because their sales team over sold kits and couldn't deliver! Yep. They messed up and we got canned! Great people! If you want to feel like garbage, give them a shot!

Thanks for your feedback. I understand that you are angry about the termination. In the future, we will aim to do better on communication and expectations. In the months leading up to your termination you were offered and given extensive support in your role. The decisions you made, as well as a lack of communication and transparency led to very expensive costs for the company and contributed to a bad experience for our clients. As business owners, the ultimate responsibility for those outcomes is with us. We would have found a way to continue working with you if there was any accountability or trust remaining. When your response to working together on solutions was to swear at us and your colleagues, it didn't seem like there was a productive way to move forward.
