Pros

* Managers and team leads are friendly and approachable, and do their best to foster a supportive environment for the Frontline Staff. *This hospital has an ER/OR/SCU/OBS departments and a General Med-Surg unit where you will care for all types of patients; from paediatrics, post-op patients, rehab patients, medical patients, LTC residents, and those with mental health issues. We do not have IV teams, or ECG teams, or a peds department. We do it ALL, and as a result you will become a well-rounded nurse with a multitude of skills under your belt. *There are lots of informal opportunities to learn new skills in the practice setting, and there are many senior staff who are more than willing to assist you. *Whenever possible, management provides formal education on various topics/ policies/procedures. * Staffing clerk does her best to accommodate and approve time off whenever it’s possible. (Tell her a joke. She has a great sense of humour) But switching or giving away shifts is a relatively easy process as well. * You’ll always be laughing. We’re hilarious. * There’s a cafeteria open during the weekdays and a vending machine after hours. The food is good but it’s a very “high school cafeteria” type of menu. However, it’s great to have it on those days when you’re too lazy to pack a lunch and are fine with eating chicken strips, fries, or pizza. * The pay rate and benefits package is on par with most other facilities. I do believe they offer some incentives for recruitments, but I’m not aware of the specifics. *there is a gym, it isn’t super fancy but it has everything you need for a good workout. *We have an Employee Wellness Coordinator/Social Worker whose door is ALWAYS open. She’s so approachable and insightful, and cares deeply about us.

Cons

*Would be nice for more formal learning opportunities, but I have read other hospital reviews and that seems to be a theme across the province. We can’t exactly fault the hospitals if the government won’t provide the funds. * would be great if the cafeteria offered a salad that wasn’t just a handful of lettuce sprinkled with 4 pieces of random veggies and a package of ranch dressing. (pasta and potato salads taste good but are not healthy haha) *like every other place of employment, there are “cliques.” If you want to be happy and thrive professionally, just be aware of them and rise above the drama. You’ll do just fine if you do so. * Being short staffed is another province-wide issue and it hasn’t spared Temiskaming Hospital. There will be times when you may get pulled from your department to work another. This can be annoying BUT it can also be a pro, depending on how you view it. Because being a well-rounded nurse will make you feel comfortable no matter what department you’re plunked into.

Pros

The front line staff here are great people and friendly.

Cons

Management is an absolute joke. Empty promises are constantly made. Staff morale is extremely low because of terrible management and staffing New staff are quickly burn out because employer expects perfection from the beginning. Egos run high in this organization. You're constantly walking on eggshells. Many of the people here are fake. Some could learn a lesson in behaviour and basic human decency from a child. Can't trust anybody as some people will not hesitate to stab you in the back.

Pros

The food in the cafeteria is really good!

Cons

Everyone here is full of drama especially the managers. Work here if you want to have a good chance at losing you license. All the senior staff quit as management is so bad and you are left with very junior staff working in specialty areas. Since they have no staff you will be trained for a specialty area weeks after starting work. So inappropriate.
