Leadership disconnect

Pros

The work is fulfilling and interesting. Low to mid-level employees are fantastic. Lots of opportunities to learn about the government and military, including travel and a security clearance. Work-life balance is great.

Cons

There is a major disconnect between the company's leadership and everyone else. The leadership has a lot of HR issues, and in general a disregard for personnel, retention, or morale. The company leaders do not encourage innovation, nor do they reward hard work. They've also had some gender-based complaints in the past. They currently have very little business success aside from one major contract and nothing else on the horizon. The salaries are below market. With all that being said, it's good for young people straight out of school to get interesting experiences and a security clearance on an acceptable salary.

Pros

- The team is wonderful, and very supportive of each other. Many of my teammates have become some of my closest friends, and my boss has been a great mentor. - The work is really interesting and teaches you a lot of great skills including research, public speaking, mapping, and coding. - There is flex work, so you can work at your own pace and can store up extra vacation days to take throughout the year. - Management really tries to support what you are passionate about - if you have an idea for a project they often let you try it out. Then if it is successful, you lead it.

Cons

- The office is not in a convenient location, although recent telework improvements makes this less problematic. - Our work priorities can change quickly, leading to very high-intensity work periods, followed by slower ones. While the new assignments can be fun and a great learning experience, they can be hard to balance with personal life.

Tesla Gov. - A Great Place to Work

Pros

- Ability to flex your schedule according to your needs - Management is willing to listen to new ideas and incorporate them as best they can - Youth driven culture - Relaxed environment with low-stress (most of the time) work - Work has real impact on military/humanitarian personnel - Initiative and drive are rewarded when and where possible

Cons

- Upper management can be slow to adopt change (but it is clear they are working on it) - Young employees don't have the experience of other jobs to temper their often high expectations - Not many leadership opportunities for hungry young professionals due to the size of the company and its current portfolio
