Pros

Company environment had a startup feel in the National Capital Region, where everyone had a couple of hats to wear but job security with the awarded contracts.

Cons

Never got the chance to see if they could compete with the larger contractors as they sold once the technology hit the street.

Small company startup in a community of big behemoths

Pros

- Fantastic salary, benefits, 401(k), generous bonuses - Great for software engineers who want to work with actual new technologies: NodeJS, Ruby-on-Rails, Clojure, Scala, Groovy-on-Grails, etc - Small company feel: everybody knows your name

Cons

- Lots of turnover - If you don't mesh well with the culture, you'll feel left out and alienated from the rest of the engineers - Sometimes it feels like the management has no idea what they're doing; lots of headbutting, clashes between senior leaders - Small company feel: lots of gossip, "alpha hens," some engineers think they walk on water

Competitive Salaries and Great Benefits Not Worth the Negatives

Pros

Competitive salaries, Great benefits, Company picnics in the summer and winter, spacious working area with many perks. For those who work there, the company works hard to make sure you're physically comfortable with new computers, office furniture, new kitchens filled with snacks, waffle-makers, and FREE bagels every Friday. Excellent place to work if you are a software developer.

Cons

The Cons far outweigh the Pros for TexelTek. The company is incredibly mismanaged. Those in management positions rarely have any experience being a manager or supervisor and so problems aren't handled fairly, those in leadership positions will often push disciplinary responsibilities on to those who should not be doing them. Problems and harassment-cases are ignored. Negative behavior is promoted. The company is unprofessional and strives to keep that reputation. In the community, TexelTek has a negative reputation and they counter it with an attitude that everyone who does not work for them is ignorant and incompetent. Even though TexelTek is supposed to work with an Agile Development process, they hardly do. Development usually consisted of people rushing to complete projects or just doing whatever they felt like. The team constantly shuffled around Product Owners due to the high-stress environment and the honoring of Software Developers over the Subject Matter Experts. The environment is generally stressful and hostile. Employees are on edge, always acting like someone is out to get them.
