Pros

My employees that I personally hired and my daily interactions with members.

Cons

Senior management was inconsistent. Some micro-managed and paid attention for a few days and then they were too busy. They should have paid better and more of us would have stuck around.

Pros

I made friendships among other employees.

Cons

Poor Management and inability to handle crisis management. This company handles their business unprofessionally from the top down. From no work/life balance to unclear boundaries and standards, management uses passive aggressive tactics instead of being upfront and honest in expectations. Their pay is also grossly under fair market value. If you try to set boundaries or push back professionally, they will consider you having an attitude and give you no warning before letting you go. They also try to get you to use unethical business practices when it comes to recruiting and new memberships.

Pros

Depending on the department you work in, this place can really be a good experience. The best departments by far are front desk, fitness, and personal training. I also liked that I got a free membership as an employee and there is opportunity for advancement if you are determined.

Cons

However, I worked for the clean team department. This was a horrible experience. I was called in on most my days off because the people I worked with were unreliable, I cleaned up some of the most repulsing things I could imagine- for 8 dollars an hour. Not only did I clean up disgusting things, I ended up having to do most all the work because they hire people who are incapable of simple tasks. Then there is the management issue. Some of the managers I had were fantastic. And I mean fantastic. But some of them played favorites, basically took their anger out on their employees, and were extremely rude. Also the schedule is never regular since so many people come and go. Sometimes members can be really rude and condescending. Which can be somewhat expected in a customer service environment, but it was an every single day thing. My last and final complaint is that you really get bored in this job. There were times where I most seriously just got all my tasks and my coworkers tasks done and had to sit in the laundry room waiting for someone to make a mess. If you are looking for something that is reliable and fun to do- do not work clean team. Try to go to front desk or fitness if you are starting out.
