Grateful for my time at The Axel Group

Pros

I was surprised to see the ratings not closer to five stars, so I wanted to drop in and talk about my personal experience to hopefully help boost the company rating. My time, though on the shorter side (1.5 years), was a launchpad for my career and I am extremely appreciative to have worked at TAG. I am not your typical fresh, college grad who got into recruiting. Sean and Len (ownership team) took a risk on hiring me - I live far away from the office and come from a unique background. Sean and the mgmt. team taught me a ton about the industry throughout my time at TAG. I wasn't the best recruiter, but I tried my best and it never went unnoticed. Eventually, I ended up leaving the TAG to join a consulting firm and I love my current job. I mention my current situation because it would never have been possible without Sean/Len and their team setting me up for success. I am beyond appreciative for the knowledge and guidance they gave me. The difference between The Axel Group and other companies is that the CEO is on-site every day and actually cares about his team. Note - I am biased because I like Sean on a personal level. However, it is true that he can can be a hard@$$ at times (he would likely agree). That's because he has a coach mentality and wants you to be the best you can be. Leadership can be very direct and unfiltered with feedback, which some can view as harsh, but I recommend you leave your ego at the door and use all of the feedback to improve yourself. It is what you make of it. I feel very grateful to be a TAG alumni. I hope I cross paths with the CEO again so I can shake his hand and thank him again for his leadership, mentorship, and the doors he helped open for me and my family. All the best!

Cons

Is recruiting hard? Yes. Are the issues and difficulties a recruiter faces unique to The Axel Group? Not at all - it's industry, not company-specific. My advice to someone considering applying to TAG is to do it! Leave your ego at the door, try and learn everyday, and hustle hard. Don't be afraid to show up early and leave a little late.

Pros

The office space is nice

Cons

Honestly, working at The Axel Group was a nightmare. If your life isn’t completely centered around the company, management makes it miserable. Sean, in particular, creates an extremely high-pressure environment, and it feels like nothing is ever good enough. Turnover is insane, just check their Instagram. Only a handful of people stick around, usually because they’re friends with leadership or feel stuck. The culture is extremely insular and cliquey, and it’s hard to build a real team dynamic when favoritism is so obvious. Work-life balance is nonexistent, and the expectations are completely unreasonable. There’s very little support for employees, and feedback is often delivered in a harsh or public way. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, feel respected, or have a normal work-life balance, this is not it. I would strongly caution anyone considering this company, don't waste your time.
