The worst place I've ever worked

Pros

There are people who care and work tirelessly on the cause, raising money, and attempting to make things better.

Cons

There are so many... discriminatory practices and language, changing people's contract terms of reference without consultation, constant reshuffling and restructures, poor leadership, a bullying culture. All displayed by very senior members of staff. Staff turnover is high for a reason. Bullying is not addressed. Staff are not listened to and their concerns are not addressed. The rot starts at the top, with blame put upon other people lower down the chain of command.

Pros

A FEW YEARS AGO: a great organisation to work for - passionate, genuine and professional people. An ambitious organisation that wanted to reconcile human and animal welfare and was supportive of its staff. True culture of trust and respect. Only good thing right now: competitive salaries.

Cons

An organisation that has lost its soul and many many of its greatest employees in the process. Lost its vision - multiple restructures without any clear rationale for any of them and some questionable recruitment at the senior leadership level. People being treated unfairly and undermined without anything being done about. CEO let their people down. Was a leader in its field. Not anymore.

Pros

- Great cause - Some great members of staff - Flexible working

Cons

- Mediocre senior management, including the CEO and some directors - HR protects bullies and allows, even encourages, abusive behaviour from senior members of staff - Bad management of finances by relying on external consultants instead of using the internal resources and the in-house talent available
