Pros

Overall an exciting, high-growth company with amazing opportunity and a forward thinking outlook from the company’s leaders (CEO and US President). TCS US opened in New York after years of enormous success in London and is currently in major growth phase, up to about 30 employees from around 16 when I first joined about a year ago. The company’s leaders are taking a careful and considered approach to growing the business, ensuring that the values & culture are instilled all the way through; taking what’s worked from the London arm and applying and adapting those successes to the office in the US. The CEO/Founder and US President are inspiring, passionate and caring women who encourage open and honest communication within and about the company. The office is open plan which really allows for everyone to chat and to get to know one another - it's a fun work environment and everyone seems to really care about and enjoy each other. This also allows for an extremely collaborative environment across all teams. It is very entrepreneurial and has the feel of a start-up, which of course comes with a set of growing pains, but there is truly a huge opportunity for growth for every employee and a rare chance to soak in the experience of what it really means to be a part of a building an actual business. It's an interesting place to work because of this – each employee truly has a front row seat to the company’s growth and establishment as a new kid on the block but with the reputation and backing of a hugely successful UK based company. Although this type of an environment isn’t for everyone – it’s not ‘cushy’ by any means, is sometimes difficult and really requires a can-do, get your hands dirty attitude – there is a real chance of a strong payoff for those who stay past this intense growth phase. The company is in a phase where it’s willing and able to properly take on board feedback from its employees while it’s still small in size. Because of employee feedback we’ve gotten more perks – wine time, occasional company breakfasts/lunches, weekly snacks, and our PTO policy was even improved.

Cons

It is a very crowded open plan office within a co-working space which comes with its difficulties but the company is looking to move and grow into a place of our own soon. Understandably, some staff lament about level of workload but again, not the place to be if you aren’t willing to work.

Pros

A very sociable environment where colleagues do work well together to completed the tasks at hand.

Cons

For the amount of dedication and long hours that employees put in at TCS, the salaries and benefits do not reflect this.

Pros

There are some brilliant, lovely people at the agency, who contribute to a fun sense of ‘team’ amongst the workers. An interesting mix of clients, an an ambition (although sometimes hampered) to be innovative Excellent flex working in terms of arrival/dept time, and early finish on Friday

Cons

The absolute rotten core of the leadership team, who espouse kindness and care however, if you challenge their view, or make a complaint they react in the most childish, mean, vindictive way. enough was enough when at an annual company meeting one of the leader read out two letters of feedback from former staff. One which was critical, raising the points above, was read out in a pantomime villain style, spitting out the points raised by the staff member who felt isolated and demeaned by the culture, and venomous admin team who support senior management. Then a hand written note to both of the leaders was read slowly and affectedly; lingering on the sycophantic and uncritical praise of the staff member who was very much a ‘tcs’ Type. To conclude the leader basically made the workforce consider - which one do you believe? The negative one was to be overlooked, it was some cretin with an axe to grind; essentially ignore the negative one and focus on the ego massaging one. This explicit threat confirmed mine and many others worst fears that their ‘concern’ for welfare, and wanting to be kind and considerate, will only go so far, and only applies to those who conform and will be yes men to massage their ego’s In addition to the above the playground politics of favourites isn’t even attempted to be concealed - toxic, bullying, useless staff members are rewarded for loyalty in spite of how appalling their behaviour is to new and junior staff members.

Dear TCS team member, I wanted to reach out personally as the negative feedback below is largely directed at me, the CEO of The Communications Store. Thank you for your positive and negative feedback. TCS has, and always will, welcome feedback, good or bad. I am genuinely sad that your experience at TCS was so horrible for you. I would like to ask you if you would give time to discuss this further. If so, please could you contact me directly or Claire Birch as you know, our HR Director (claire@tcs-uk.net) so we can arrange a time. TCS works hard to ensure an honest, decent, inclusive work environment. To that end, TCS Voices is an independent group set up to discuss all potentially difficult work place issues. As you know we work with annual anonymous survey information to make sure all members of TCS have an opportunity for private comments and feedback and our bi-annual appraisal process is also in place, in part, to make sure there is proper time for each team member’s personal feedback. Finally, exit interviews (when hopefully you can say anything you like!) are there so you do can exactly that. I am sorry that you did not appreciate the presentation I gave at the January 2019 company away day. I would like to talk to you about this because respectfully, you have misunderstood and misrepresented the content of what was shared. I look forward to hearing from you and in the meanwhile wish you every success. Julietta Dexter - CEO and Founder
