      Don't be fooled into overworking for a meaningless experience.

      Pros

      Fellow staff members who didn't know what they were getting themselves into bonded. Environment appropriate for under 30, childless crowd. Lots of local items. Remote work opportunities. Freedom to take photos and work with videos.

      Cons

      60 -70 hour work weeks, no extra pay, difficulty getting reimbursed, no journalistic integrity, lot of ripping off material from other publications, lots of meaningless filler material, miserable upper management, no organization, no respect for other news organizations. People are either being fired or fleeing - most for good reason. Not a place for long term employment growth.

      Pros

      You have the ability to get news out immediately and find stories that interest you. Not required to cover municipal meetings.

      Cons

      Ever-changing page view goals – the amount and the metrics. Lack of growth/promotion. Lack of work/life balance.

      Pros

      Flexible working environment; OK starter company for a new journalist (get your bylines published and then get out)

      Cons

      Management staff is unprofessional; Low (and inconsistent) salaries for each position; Policies and strategies constantly change; Extremely high turnover rate; This company no longer delves in real community journalism -- nearly all content is curated from other sources and they outsource a lot of news content to overseas workers (not community-lead, as they would have you believe).
