Pros

The Deal is a phenomenal place to start a career. The pay is somewhat anemic, but there is ample opportunity to learn the craft advance quickly for those motivated to work. Sadly, large gains to income are best had by leaving the company.

Cons

Since being purchased by The Street Inc. layoffs come with startling regularity. The survivors are saddled with more work, and increases to pay are non-existent. Work-Life balance is strongly biased to work.

Pros

Friendly and relaxed atmosphere, absolutely no stress if you are able to do a decent job

Cons

It seems that everyone is looking to jump ship since the company was acquired by The Street. The Deal's management, while friendly and great to work with, is not able to assure staff that there will be no more layoffs. So far, The Street has laid off personnel from The Deal every September. It also seems to be hiring more freelancers and contributors as opposed to full-time reporters and copy editors. Looks like The Street only bought The Deal for its database and not for the talented reporters.
