Graiders - Stay away. It's a scam.

Pros

* You get to work from home * You set your own schedule for completing assignments * Super easy to get - you won't even be interviewed!

Cons

If you've been hired as a graider and think you're getting paid - you're only fooling yourself. I spent 3 days on 10 students and got paid nothing. NOTHING. They will take your work, submit it to teachers, and keep submitting it back to you telling you that you're not meeting their "quality standards." Even if you reviewed everything and submitted it compliant to the complaints previously addressed. And put 40+ hrs of work into it. They will take your work, pay you nothing and move on to the next "graider" who again will provide them with free feedback for the next 10 students. This is slave labor. Example: You'll be told that you need to be more specific in your feedback. When you do not provide students with specific arguments they need to address in their paper, you'll get told you're not being specific enough. When you are specific, and tell students the exact steps they need to follow to improve themselves, you'll get told that you cannot give them direct advice. You cannot win. You will not win and you're only wasting your time, which, if you're a student like me, you don't have.

Unrealistic Expectations for Low Pay

Pros

The work is done remotely, and graders are primarily self managed. Lots of independence for the job.

Cons

Pay is inordinately low. I was paid less than a dollar per student when grading takes at least 15min per student, based on the amount and quality of feedback they request. They tell graders that eventually their grading times will decrease, but they don't.

Great flexible part-time job!

Pros

- Flexible hours and good pay! During school times, I can choose assignments and always come in a bit under the estimated time - Growth focus and coaching! There’s consistent feedback and encouragement so I’ve become a better (ans quicker) grader over time - Reading student work! Honestly I’ve just learned a lot about writing and student’s work after over a thousand student essays

Cons

- There was about a 1 month learning curve. It took 2-3 assignments for me to understand the feedback style so for these, responding to coaching and including revisions, I spent 3-4 hours on 2-3 hour assignments. After those first few, however, I come in under time! - To be expected from an education job, but there aren’t assignments / hours during the summer **STRONGLY disagree with the comments about a scam – I’ve worked here three years and have ALWAYS been paid the estimated hours of an assignment in full and on time. Especially after 2-3 assignments experience I feel the pay is VERY fair and there are +$2 and +$4 bonuses for special assignments like AP essays or projects with quick turnaround time**
