Pros

The culture is amazing. Everyone is really laid back, there are company outings and happy hours all the time. Everyone gets along great. The office feels like my second home! Leadership values work/personal life balance, far different from any other company I've worked for in the past. The office environment is open (no one has an office, we're all equals).

Cons

Days can be long and workflow can be heavy, but not so bad because time flies!

Where to grow as a PR professional

Pros

Hatch has built a top-tier team. The people are really the shining star of the agency. Everyone plays on one team and comes to work ready to work hard, learn, and grow. It is truly a values-driven company. Everyone who works at Hatch fully embodies curiosity, relentlessness, and realness. It's a special place to grow as a PR pro. You play a huge part on your teams, have direct interactions with everyone at the agency, and are talking with clients and media on the daily. Amy and Reema are two of the best in the business. They also approach PR from vastly different approaches, so you really understand and appreciate different ways of thinking and doing.

Cons

There is always a lot going on. If you have difficulty moving quickly from one task to another or organizing lots of moving pieces, this probably isn't the place for you. The bar is set high, which I personally think is essential to build client relations (and a business), but be aware that there is an expectation to bring your A game every day. There is also a lot of support and feedback - both from your career coach and through the review processes.

Pros

Let's be honest – no workplace is perfect, but I'm rating Hatch 5 stars because over time through my experiences here and with the perspective of others I know in the industry, I really think it's a special place that's going to be hard to beat in my career. To elaborate on the title: - The team - I feel very fortunate to work with a group of people I both like and respect. I find everyone to be friendly and genuine, and also some of the smartest, hardest working people I know. Everyone carries their weight and is willing to lend a hand when needed, but also holds each other to high standards. - Growth - You know the saying, "If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room"? For me, working at Hatch was one of the first times where I felt that (not that I'm some genius, but school and other jobs seemed to praise "good enough" so I wasn't truly challenged). It was very uncomfortable for me at first, but over time I've come to appreciate that it means I've had lots of opportunities to learn and grow, and advance my career at a more rapid pace than I could imagine being able to do elsewhere. - Leadership - I really, really respect Hatch's leadership for leading by example. Even the company founders will be in the trenches with you during a crisis or to pitch for a launch. And they truly mean it when they say that our successes and failures happen as a team – I know from experience that they have my back. I think setting that tone from the top down is one of the biggest things that contributes to Hatch's culture.

Cons

The nature of working at an agency and personally having 4 different clients demanding your attention and time means sometimes everybody needs/wants you at once. That can make for long days on occasion and there have been times where I've been close to burnt out. That said, I find that ebbs and flows, and most of the time I feel a good work/life balance, but it was something I had to learn to impose for myself (e.g. don't respond to non-urgent emails that are coming in off-hours). Hatch is also fast-paced and sometimes that means you have to learn a bit trial by fire. It can be scary and uncomfortable if you're the type who likes clear rules and guidelines for everything.
