Pros

Working with the students was phenomenal.

Cons

Overworked, underpaid. Administration is no particularly respectful to staff. There were staff who would report or "tattle" secretively to administration if they didn't agree with you, instead of coming directly to the person they didn't agree with. That behavior was encouraged. It was a hostile environment. There was no real support from administration for staff when teachers were understaffed and, at the same time, overwhelmed by the number if students becoming dysregulated. The physical environment of the classroom was not conducive to limiting the space where students could continuously "run around" and become disruptive, and thus, not allowing teaching to take place.

Pros

great teachers, interesting students, lots of autonomy, beautiful campus a good job for those who truly love kids with special needs, can tolerate managerial whims and eccentricities, and never want to be bored

Cons

Staff is expected to be with students 38 hours per week or more, 205 days per year, leaving no time for planning, preparation, and paperwork. You are paid for 40 hours per week, but need at least 50 to do the minimum work expected. Upper management seldom recognizes the hard work of their employees, but instead micromanages about trivial matters. Staff input is seldom welcomed or valued. Consequences for those who fail to conform to managerial expectations can be severe. It is a stressful place to work as one always feels one can never do a satisfactory job in the eyes of the executive director and his protegees. Financial remuneration is based in part on your perceived "overall value" to the program, leaving room for gross inequities in salary.

Horrible!!!!

Pros

The kids are amazing and a lot of staff go above and beyond to meet the unique needs of each student.

Cons

Administration is the worst!!! Administration will lie to your face, make promises that are never up kept. Buildings are infested with mice, falling apart, dirty and never throughly cleaned only occasionally by students. Teachers are given little or no supplies and you need to write an essay each time you need any supplies for your class and hope that it gets approved. Most teachers end up spending a lot of their own money out of pocket. Confidentially does not exist at this place. Administration will talk about confidential information in front of an entire class and be non existent during times of crisis.
