Pros

Lots of really smart people who really care about keeping quality journalism and news publishing alive

Cons

WAY too slow to react to market, always want to build from scratch with too few resources, too little money and no real expertise (won't pay for it). Leadership is isolated, surrounded by yes-men, begs employees to remain loyal and gives nothing in return; needs to turnover to someone other than family members

Pros

The newsroom staff is dedicated and works hard for little reward. Your time is flexible. No one is looking at your comings and goings as long as you get the job done.

Cons

Several POC left last year, and it wasn't because they all found better offers. The number of minorities in the newsroom wasn't that great to begin with, so to lose that many diminishes the coverage of already under-served and underrepresented cultures and communities. Management talks a good game. Do better. Layoff announcements tend to be during holiday time, and they're based on seniority outside of management and digital. Don't expect a pay raise or a lot of acknowledgement of your work.

Pros

The people are great, but fairly demoralized. This used to be a great company, but those days are long gone.

Cons

Management has no idea what is going on. Employees are just a number (and an expense). The location couldn't be worse (dead center of all the construction and traffic).
