Pros

The only pro is that it's close to home and a stress-free job.

Cons

Upper management doesn't care and isn't open to suggestions on how to improve the company. Incompetent employees, would rather gossip then get work done. I began working for The Service Companies, a hotel staffing agency located in Miami Lakes on April 5, 2010. After working for the company for four weeks, I was let go on April 30, 2010. At the time of employment, I thought the Service Companies was a legitimate agency, providing excellent terms for employment. I saw myself growing in my position as an HR associate, extending my employment for at least the next two years. However, I received minimal training, and provided few, if any tangible assignments to complete during the work day. During my last week with the company, I was afforded the opportunity to complete an auditing project, and was told I was doing an outstanding job in fulfilling my responsibilities to the company. I was taken aback when I was brought into my supervisor's office and informed that my position was eliminated due to a lack of demand. I thought nothing of it and left on cordial terms. I now believe I was intentionally mislead about my being laid off, due to the fact that the same position I was told was being eliminated has recently appeared on a job search site. I do not recommend anyone working for this company.

Pros

Easy job. Work/life balance was good. I lived far away from the offices, but it was easy enough to get there quickly. Going to openings for different hotels and traveling had its perks.

Cons

No employee appreciation. No values. I was asked to bend rules and ethics to meet goals and bottom lines, which I was completely uncomfortable with. I completely agree with the previous reviewer who was an HR Associate as well. I was hired in September of 2010 and laid off in March of 2011. The leadership is incompetent and not concerned for the well-being and quality of life of employees. Much like the previous reviewer's story, I was told I was doing a great job and performing well mere days before I was laid off. I was laid off because certain individuals within the company chose to gossip instead of work, and had connections to the higher ups. They didn't like me, and I got laid off for it. Needless to say, I did NOT leave on cordial terms. I would not, ever, recommend working for this company.

Pros

Free food at lunch offered by the hotel.

Cons

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT!! Laughable, I worked for The Service Companies at The Sheraton Hotel in downtown Nashville. The Service Companies are subcontracted to handle the hotel's housekeeping and it was apparent from my SECOND day on the job that these people have no clue. For one, half of the housekeepers don't speak a lick of english, which when I realized that I had never submitted information for my I-9 and no one even asked for copies of my license and social security card, I figured that a lot of the housekeepers (who were Hispanic) had probably not submitted that info either! Second, on my second day on the job, the owner of the hotel shows up with an army of his "staff" and basically tells the managers that they aren't doing their job. The girl that was training me to be a "coordinator" was basically asked to "go inspect rooms." She starts crying. A mess. I contacted someone who I assumed was apart of the human resources department for The Service Companies to explain the sheer incompetence I had witnessed on my first two days on the job and to inform them that I would not be returning, the lady apologized and said that someone from the board of HR would reach out to me. Never happened. Save your energy and apply somewhere else.
