I have been working at The Trade Desk full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employee share purchase program, Free lunch 2 days a week

    Cons

Bad work environment for Analytics/BI team. Bad middle management. Missing work/life balance. They think they work in Agile mode but have not implemented it well. Team is rigid and works according to the whims of middle managers

I have been working at The Trade Desk full-time

    Pros

The perks of working at The Trade Desk are great. While we’re not as big as Google and Facebook, you still get free lunches twice a week, attend the annual conference in LA, go to cool events and there’s plenty of snacks in the kitchen. Ever since I’ve started working here, I think I’ve gained a pound or ten.

    Cons

Ever since The Trade Desk became publicly listed in the last two years, the focus on making more revenue has become more apparent. Now there’s nothing wrong in making more point, that is a main point whenever you start a business – but I feel that workers have become overworked due to the aggressive targets that need to be met. To top it off, there are times I want to question the decisions that senior managers make at times. However, I don’t voice them as I don’t want to be on the wrong end of the stick as well. There’s also a cliquey culture that’s becoming more evident as well, and often these people get promoted and other people in the team become overlooked as a result of this. The team dinners and events are great, but I feel like I'm forced to attend these events because if I don't go, it looks like I don't want to be part of a team. One time, I couldn't attend an event for a personal reason and I was asked a couple of times if I could reschedule it to another time. To get this person off my back, I rescheduled my appointment to accomodate this - but again, it felt like I was forced to go to the event. In fact, I feel like I see my colleagues more than I see my friends and family.

I have been working at The Trade Desk full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I've worked 15 years in the industry and this is the best work culture I've ever encountered. It is filled with smart, hard-working folks who are kind and generous with their time. Work-life balance is supported and encouraged as well. The company is thriving with rapid growth and increasing revenue with a growing international presence. Interesting problems, great work, fantastic culture. What more can you ask for?

    Cons

Haven't come across one yet. Genuinely.

I have been working at The Trade Desk full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - It’s hard to be bored. There’s lots going on and there is always more to learn. - Decent stock program, providing motivation to stay for the long haul. - Pre-pandemic, the perks were nice. Lunches, regular happy hours, quarterly office events, travel opportunities, swag. - There are some incredibly brilliant minds who work(ed) here.

    Cons

    - Hierarchical structures are driven by favoritism, nepotism, and ego stroking. This stifles real career growth for many if you don’t fit the mold. I’ve seen it happen to numerous incredibly talented people. And I’ve seen the same honorary friends of the boys club get promoted over and over again. - Many employees have a lack of autonomy and self-governance. This is an inefficient use of everyone’s time, it hurts innovation and creativity, and it’s insulting. - Much of management is immature, misaligned with each other, lacking vision, and riddled with indecision. This has a ripple effect down, creating more misalignment and tension cross-functionally. - There used to be a palpable cult mentality that honestly freaked me out when I joined. There were people acting like programmatic was going to change the world. I've even see company shirts that say "World Domination." Sorry, what? - Then, they made a splash about transforming media for the benefit of humankind. I am all for supporting independent journalism, but a lot of folks think this was distasteful and tone deaf. A multi-billion dollar advertising company that profits off of exploiting user data to show consumers ads they would rather not see does not have a mission to benefit "humankind." There's even an argument to be made that this company actively hurts humankind. Just own it. - A “benevolent dictator” is still a dictator. Why do people say Jeff is a benevolent dictator like it’s okay? It starts to become unsettling when even management jokes about it... - I guess much of this is to be expected of a company. It's just such a shame to disguise it as culture. There is no substantive culture, and false optimism is tacky.

I have been working at The Trade Desk full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

*Good business model positioned for long-term success in the fastest growing part of the ad business *Seems relatively COVID-proof unless overall economy and ad spending tanks big time *Excellent benefits, including stock ownership plans *Many interesting and smart people to work with *Nice offices with snacks and such back when going to the office was a thing *Solid infrastructure for remote work. *Tech seems interesting to work on as an engineer

    Cons

*Many managers promoted beyond their abilities *High turnover (voluntary and involuntary) in lots of groups. *Gossip and cliques have too much influence. Careers are ruined by petty high school BS. *Most jobs don't have clear cut metrics for success, so politics and relationships (especially with the CEO and those surrounding him) count for more than they should *No work/life balance -- 24/7 availability expected in many groups under the guise of "responsiveness". Burnout is rampant.
