Pros

If you want to spend 9+ hours a day working while your bosses gossip about who is sleeping with whom, this is the place for you.

Cons

Where do I even begin? Firstly, if you're not British, expect to be treated with less consideration (they worship their British employees while the Americans are an afterthought). Management heavily pushes coming into the office to justify the lead editor getting a corner office. This rule is mainly enforced for employees they don't care about (i.e. some people are forced to come in from OUT OF STATE four times a week, while others, who live 25 minutes away, come in maybe once a week). The content is some of the dumbest I've ever written. I even considered using a pen name to avoid tarnishing my reputation. You're working 9+ hour days while line managers "work" in conference rooms or disappear altogether for hours at a time. The editors constantly have no idea what they're talking about and new "strategies" are implemented nearly daily to tackle poor PV numbers. This translates to reporters taking on more work to compensate for management's general incompetence. There is no U.S. HR department, no room for growth, and promotions and pay raises are often denied under the guise of "we have no budget". Somehow, execs are flown back and forth nearly monthly. The bottom line is that if something doesn't directly benefit the managers, they will deny you. Also, you get no American holidays off, so expect to be the only person you know working President's Day, MDW, LDW, Fourth of July, and even Christmas.

Pros

I worked with amazing people on my team and made lifelong friendships.

Cons

Management treated people terribly. I have never experienced such a toxic environment in all my years working in media. They recently laid off the majority of their US staff with no warning, constantly blamed editors for low traffic, and expected people to work overtime with no bonus while they strolled into the office at whatever time they wanted. During my time there, they changed my hours/responsibilities without consulting me or HR and had me working 5 days a week in the office (including on weekends and holidays) on night shifts etc. when I had been hired on a regular 9-6 remote schedule.

Pros

-Healthy amount of PTO and benefits

Cons

-Quantity over quality mindset in that they don’t care how poor of quality a story is as long as it gets clicks -They’re more gaming the system by worshipping stats and searching for keywords and phrases that will get clicks for stories. Does that sound like journalism? Expect to be asked to write about mind-numbingly pointless topics most of the time -Was told we couldn’t write about climate change (thank the Rupert Murdoch influence for that) -Favoritism for people who work in-office. The managing editor rudely/regularly referred to non-office regulars as “once-a-weekers” — a strange thing to say when the head of audience for “The US Sun” is European and lives on another continent outside of America. -Hard-to-work-with lower management -Little-to-no growth opportunities -Constantly dumping more work on employees to save money instead of hiring more staff or freelancers -High freelancer turnover rate -High-pressure and stressful work environment -Loud office that’s hard to concentrate in
