Pros

I felt good about my work every day. I loved my colleagues. In the day-to-day, we had a lot of autonomy over how we did our work and freedom to take initiative on (most) projects. The salary was a definite mark above a minimum wage job like the retail job I left to work here.

Cons

The management (who will claim they are not "management") push their philosophy of non-hierarchical work and "free-form and conversation-based" workflows. In practice what this means is that nobody really knows whats going on except for a few people - and they won't answer your questions. There is a hierarchy, both in the sense that there really are people in charge who you need to go through to get certain things done, and in a deeper sense there is a knowledge hierarchy where some people know whats happening and some people don't.

Pros

Apparently there are good benefits. I did not work long enough to get them.

Cons

Dismissive and inept management without proper experience in supportive housing. No proper or adequate training for various different job categories, and any request or clarification sought for training was dismissed as unnecessary. Various work-place incidents occurred without adequate follow-through. Hazardous working conditions during COVID-19 where no mask enforcement or social distancing was expected for clients. Denying time off for staff who are burnt out or suffering from mental health issues. Inappropriate designation of roles to staff who are physically incapable or inexperienced to execute properly.

Pros

A well known community organization that is all about giving back to the community. You really feel good working here. It's an open door policy, everyone is welcome.

Cons

Pay is well below market rates for similar jobs, mind you this is no secret. This is work the government used to do for a lot more money, now privatized for much lower costs.
