Extremely Bad Vibes

Pros

Decent salary. Good location in the city.

Cons

There is a lot of turn-over here, and I should have seen the red flag when I was hired pretty much on the spot. There were no formalities, and it's my fault for not seeing the writing on the wall. The senior writer there does NOT like competition and will go out of her way to squash someone who doesn't think exactly like her, making it impossible to advance. The partners say they have an exceptionally welcoming open-door policy, but the way the environment is there, you're made to feel as though you'll get fired if you say something in opposition to anyone. There are a lot of politics for such a small agency and if you're a talented creative, you are way better off somewhere else! Don't "thinkso," think NOT!

No One Seems To Enjoy It

Pros

Small agency feel means there is room for growth - if the opportunity were there Leaders seem to be good people Processes are appreciated Head designers are good

Cons

Too much process and not enough real-time conversation Awkward social engagements among staff, and meetings. We would have check-ins that felt forced, and lacking in humanity Felt like everyone reports into one person, which ultimately prevents creativity and growth. Super high turnover

Pros

Everyone is generally really hardworking and a tight ship is run. The partners are sharp and exigent. Lunch provided on Fridays. Alcohol readily available. A terrace!

Cons

I found the company culture very difficult and stressful, and my realization of this only cemented once I settled into another agency environment after this one. Some people there are very on the edge and downright terrifying when under stress. Lots of passive aggression, two-facedness and backbiting as well. It's like they tried to do things to create a drama-free environment, but such a thing couldn't be avoided. It always felt like there was tension underneath the surface. More going on than what meets the eye. There is nothing laid back about this place. The work is challenging and for strong personalities. It requires that you are 100% devoted to it--not much work/life balance, especially for project managers. Just overall bad vibes. Appreciated the work ethic, but the execution of the work itself was not progressive or very interesting.
