      Great product, terrible place to work

      They have a great product.

      Cons

      Because they have a great product they think they are untouchable, and have no regard for regulatory compliance and ethical integrity. Management doesn't manage, so the staff have the freedom to run the show, and decide if they feel like working. If you are a hard worker, then you are a problem. Don't bother making suggestions for more efficient processes. because the thought is.....well it worked the last time. As a result they do things in very inefficient ways because management refuses to acknowledge or address issues. They string people along with promises that are never kept. I don't recommend this place to anybody I know. I actually tell them to stay away from here.

      Pros

      401K contributions are 50% matched. If you're in management, from supervisor on up, there are generous stock grants as part of compensation that are above and beyond cash bonuses.

      Cons

      The operational standards are very low. Business Infrastructure is very 1980s or early 1990's. Tools and systems are outdated. The various departments are "silos". Very little teamwork and lots of blaming when things go wrong. And they go wrong often. Those that have tried to do the right thing and make things better are labeled as troublemakers or forced out. Problem areas are ignored until a regulatory audit actually issues an audit finding. Even then, the "correction" is as minimal as possible.

      Pros

      Nice individual window offices, decent pay and benefits, flex hours, lunch is on the company clock

      Cons

      It isn't Thoratec anymore, recently was absorbed into St. Jude Medical. Thoratec is no more. St. Jude is laying off "legacy Thoratec" employees in waves. Future is completely unpredictable.
