Pros
Work on impactful projects for not-for-profits and Government. Friendly, talented staff that know what they’re doing and do it well. Excellent, helpful producers You can learn a lot from very talented colleagues.
Cons
Management have bullied staff members and labelled certain people as troublemakers. Staff are seen as resources, not humans. Career advancement is difficult. Threats are used to control the behaviour of staff. Profitability is the primary concern of management, the “impact” aspect feels as if it’s used as a sales point more than being a legitimate passion for the business. Many clients and projects have no social impact and could be considered the opposite of having positive impact. Commercial, corporate, for-profit work is commonly undertaken in the studio. Pay is well below other studios for the same roles. Junior roles, for people with tertiary qualifications, tend to start at near to minimum wage. Lots of overtime happens in the studio. Overtime is unpaid.
