Pros

Name recognition... Office is in a nice location.

Cons

If you are a masochist and enjoy working long hours with low pay then this is the place for you. Senior associates are disorganized and designs are often changed at the final hour before due dates resulting in many all nighters. If you divide the salary by actual hours worked, you get less than minimum wage. Certain "senior" staff can be extremely abusive and violent. There were several lawsuits pending on hostile working environment when I was there. It was probably THE worst job I have ever had in my life. You will need extensive therapy after working there.

Pros

Location of the office. Colleagues from diverse backgrounds to bond over the misery of being in a toxic work environment.

Cons

There are designers who inspire, designers who are professional and then there’s Tony Chi. For a “designer” of his status he is the one person who will make you want to quit being a designer for life. As the head of a design firm he feels better about himself only when he is putting others down. His choice of words and the sheer volume with which he chooses to express himself over any given situation at hand is astounding! Belittling designers, juniors and seniors alike and aggressively verbally attacking people is the standard of communication in the office as defined by the principal, Tony Chi himself. No self respecting person (not just designer), should consider this toxic environment as an opportunity to learn. It’s just not worth the mental abuse and torture. There are wonderful, super talented designers and firms in New York where professionalism and humane treatment of employees is the norm. Tony chi is not one of those places. Compensation is not comparable to the other design firms yet the expectation to pour your soul and produce work is ridiculous.
