Pros

Job is easy if you have a great team. Teams are small, average 4 per store. The hours are great, no late nights. Pay is average but can be bolstered with commission for all, bonus can be earned for deputy and store managers if gp target is achieved. Uniform is provided. Holiday entitlement is good, Hapi benefits could be useful,

Cons

The work involves some heavy lifting, you can get covered in adhesive powder, some stores can be dusty. Job can be much harder if the small team don’t gel or perform. Small teams means covering holidays/sickness can be a struggle.

Pros

Good teams in store if you’re lucky

Cons

Family feel gone with the new “toolstation mob” No part of the business listens to the teams in stores, please don’t tell me to talk to the team talk rep, they do care themselves but aren’t aloud to talk about it in the meetings they have. seems like head office departments are just making things up to keep their jobs a lot of the time, granted we don’t see anything they do, but most of what comes down the line is redundant. They have no idea what a store is like. Frustrated beyond belief at the moment and this is the only place to vent that frustration as there is no outlet or anyone to actually talk to about anything without seeming “negative” the MD is hellbent on turning Topps tiles into "toolstopps” and it’s pushing all our local trade online. Gone are the days where we wouldn’t let a sale go out the door, we are now feeding our competitors, all aspects of what made Topps tiles a great place to work has been totally stripped from the bottom up. I understand that a company needs to be profitable but there is a fine line being walked at the moment, I am actually scared for what lays ahead with Rob Parker going soon and probably someone from toolstation taking the helm, (please god don’t let it be Mr Robinson) all of the good ones are slowly being asked to leave. Not much in the way of progression after you get to manager unless you move to Leicester. I’m ranting because I care so much about the company and I’ve been in it for over 10 years now.

Pros

1% commission and minimum wage!!!

Cons

Everything. Head Office business model is "Do what we've always done, Learn from nothing, Change only what we know already works". Nobody above Store Manager has a clue what they're doing, nor will they ever in a million years accept that people on the front line actually do.

Thank you for your review of Topps Tiles, we are sorry to hear you are not enjoying working at Topps Tiles. We are one of not many retail companies that still pay commission to our employees. We would encourage you to speak with your ASM, RDOS or your HRBP with any concerns you may have. Kind regards the recruitment team
