Their days are numbered...

Pros

The once-glorified benefits & perks have diminished or are now non-existent (free yoga, paid dress-up days, anniversary bonuses, karaoke nights, movie night, paint night, book club, catered company lunch for each partner’s birthday, etc). HR had sugarcoated a major change to the 401k plan - what used to be 5% company-matching is now “25% of 5%” (a confusing phrase for saying 1.25%). The one benefit that remained was the paid time off, which includes vacation, personal, personal exempt, sick time, holidays, five office closure days during the summer, and more recently the “Summer (Half Day) Fridays.”

Cons

An important note is that within the last 2 years the company has had a series of layoffs in which over 100 employees have been affected. The partners would address these layoffs with thinly veiled comments of “sizing right for the company” and “adjusting to the current market.” The workplace had been an uncomfortable environment as upper management & those close to the partners walk around the office in surveillance, peering over employees’ shoulders & computers to check if work is being done while also assessing which persons would be the next to go. With the combination of numerous lawsuits, major production issues, lack of orders, and loss of business accounts & customers, the company no longer has the funds it once had to support itself. It may seem the company’s days are numbered if business doesn’t improve. The only foreseeable future for this 40+ year company is either selling or bankruptcy.

Pros

- Nice building/location - Benefits - extra paid time off for holidays - paid sick days, two weeks vacation pay, two personal days It was refreshing to join a company that promoted a good life/work balance. But if your aren't the 1% who is favored expect to have to work harder/longer hours. Might be a good place to start but if you find yourself waiting for an opportunity that hasn't come it probably won't.

Cons

-Little room for growth/opportunites -Nepotism/favorites -Huge gap between the 1% and 99% -It's understood across the board to that to be promoted you must fit a specific mold, if not you’re dispensable -No diversity in the "favorites" -People who are hired/promoted aren't always qualified, usually family/friend/favorite

Pros

Holiday party Benefits including dental and 401k matching, PTO Random days off and substantial holiday break Birthday potlucks (if you're well liked) Copious amounts of office supplies

Cons

Topson Downs is right for you if you're okay with having absolutely zero job security and you enjoy constantly being in fear of losing your job due to the frequent company-wide layoffs because the company is HEMORRHAGING money and instead of telling you about it, the "partners" choose to lie to your face about how great everything is at every TGIM (thank goodness it's Monday) morning meeting and booking holiday parties at venues they can't afford to drum up the scintilla of employee morale they have left. This company is just for you if you're cool with pervasive nepotism that permeates every aspect of the company from the bottom to the very top! The "partners" like to make you think that you're all the same, hence the name. But you're not. If you relentlessly suck up to the 1%, your job may last a bit longer. If you say yes to everything, even to things that aren't your job, they may choose to keep you around. The higher up their position is, the lazier they tend to be. You'll frequently find yourself doing your bosses' jobs. DO NOT go to the career adviser/mediator or the spiritual adviser. They DO NOT have your best interests in mind and your conversations will not stay confidential despite their promise that they will be. Do not be too quick to trust any of your coworkers or bosses. You will get thrown under the bus if you allow yourself to be. This company is right for you if you're okay with an extremely noisy work environment , being crammed into small work spaces you share with too many coworkers whilst being surrounded by a sea of clothing racks, hangers, boxes and just stuff. Make sure you always have headphones. This company is just what you're looking for if you enjoy working under people who don't know what they're doing at all times (and are only there because they probably know someone higher up who got them their job) to a point where you often ponder how in the world they got the job and the salary that they have. The actual hard workers, the people with the real talent who do good work are rarely ever recognized for it. Mediocrity thrives at Topson Downs. This company is perfect for you if you're a-okay with a stagnant position that you're overqualified for and will be underpaid for. Promotions are few & far between. If you are promoted, congrats! Your job title changes, your workload increases, your pay stays the same. There has been a "freeze" on raises for several years so don't count on that. If someone in your department is laid off or is fortunate enough to quit (good for them), prepare yourself to take on some or all of their responsibilities and none of their pay. Topson Downs is a sinking ship. Get out while you still can.
