Jobs for friends and poor HR

Pros

The Christmas party used to be fun but absolutely no other benefits.

Cons

Interesting to read the poor review around how unprofessional HR were in Totemic. During my time I found them to be aggressive, condescending and completely unprofessional in the way they behaved and it looks like the "family" run business is still up to their old tricks. HR are supposed to support people/managers to make informed decisions but they were just after an easy life. There were some ridiculous choices around promoting individuals that can barely manage themselves let alone teams of people. This business is ultimately doomed and it's poor decision making coupled with having inexperienced/incapable individuals making management decisions will be a key factor in this. Anyone considering making the move to Totemic should think long and hard about what they are letting themselves in for as there is limited progression within a company that is still on a downward spiral. There was also a culture in my time of certain senior management letching over the young girls in the office, which was repulsive but it did ensure the victims were rewarded with a promotion opportunity.

Pros

People Free parking Free Coffee Free fruit now and then Relaxed working environment. no one knows what you do anyway No stress as the work is meaningless

Cons

Working for a family run business where unless you're in the CEO's (not John Fairhurst) "special ventures" team aka “the grooming team", or a friend of the family your job is meaningless, unfulfilling and pointless. Marry one of the family to get ahead or play along with the games the incredibly unintelligent CEO plays until you get a payout. Do it for a year or two if you fancy an easy life, but if you want a career that means something forget it, although the way money is wasted in this business it probably won't be around for to much longer.

Pros

The canteen. It’s a relaxed atmosphere on the surface.

Cons

Everything else. Direction changes in an instant, strategy likewise. Family members in positions they’d never be in anywhere else, friends given very senior roles despite having no experience in that field. The CEO is powerless to the whims of her father, and seems pretty demotivated as a result, and he’s got an ADHD approach to strategy. The structure is massively flawed, with org charts nonexistent and teams structured in seconds. The biggest flaw is that they don’t respect or care about their staff, with the exception of those who’ve been there for years. They hire and fire and don’t care at all.
