Pros

The pay was ok, I would say mid level for the years of experience.

Cons

SOOOO many. For team members and corporate partners(Contractors) alike there is absolutely no upward movement or promotion. You are forced tp partake in silly meetings that have absolutely nothing to do with your work that are a drain morally on the entire team. Management at any level(Within Powertrain Lab Operations Maintenance in Ann Arbor) is completely detached from the moral of there team, they will not take advice, listen to issues, help when you make a request for the need of a job. Requests for training are completely ignored . Safety at Toyota is paramount(At least i believe that to be true outside of Powertrain) Inside of Powertrain safety is swept aside for the needs of testing. To give examples recently a dyno centering system was broken and the techs where told to roll the roller with there foot to center the vehicle. I was forced to operate an environmental test cell with a vehicle and no training despite speaking up about my discomfort doing so and formally protesting to the safety officer. Respect for people is another core pillar at Toyota(At least outside of Powertrain Ann Arbor). Within powertrain your opinions, life situations and personal feeling are ignored. I had made hundreds of suggestions and request of my supervisor , and all i ever heard was let me see what i can do, No action was ever taken to correct a single request or suggestion. As a contractor with Powertrain Ann Arbor, You are not respected, You are less than a number to them and can be discarded. You will never be hired if you are brough in as a contractor, so be weary if that was made as a promise. You will not be able to transfer to any other division and though they claim you can interview with other groups and be brought in full time, This is a falsehood. Yes you can interview but there is a problem. Corporate policy requires them to interview you but the job is already earmarked for a promotion for someone else. There is a near zero chance for a contractor to be hired in. The buddy system! As long as you say yes sir to everything that your boss says whether its right or wrong you will stay in good standing. If you disagree with their views you are ostracized. Toyota has a no retaliation policy for employees to speak up. (well at least outside of Powertrain Ann Arbor). Every time i spoke up about a safety issue or work conditions i got the YOU SOB look. How dare you question my authority. I was never in the inner circle of California illuminati because i spoke up. Possibly the biggest issue is you are not allowed to perform the job that you where hired to perform. There are a lot of very smart people within my old group of Lab operations maintenance and none of there skills are being put to good use. Instead management is stuck in their way and refuses to adapt. There response when you report any issue is to call the vendor ? Why am i here then? I was disciplined on serval occasions for repairing issues LOL that's right i was disciplined for fixing stuff, for doing my job. Why ? Because it was not what my supervisor wanted me to do. In conclusion, My humble opinion is to never work within Powertrain Ann Arbor at a Team Member or Contractor level. I found it to be a life sucking abyss from which the only way out was death, quitting or bring fired for not following the status quo.

Pros

Benefits, somewhat flexible hours, work from home, management assistance with personal growth. Having experience in many areas within the company helps.

Cons

Lack of advancement opportunities, cyclical work (peaks and valleys of work)
