The team is friendly, helpful and humble. No big egos here. - As of this writing, the CXOs are people who have been with the company since it started nearly 15 years ago. The president and CTO wrote the early version of the software themselves. They're smart and technical, and unlike many professional managers they understand software development back to front. - The development team works remotely. 'Nuff said. - Management takes the dev team seriously and allows the team to determine how to organize work and what tools to use. - This company is growing and will really hit its stride in the next 5 years.
Cons
- TrackAbout solves difficult real-world problems in tracking assets through space and time, and the code reflects that in places. The development team takes code quality seriously, but there are spots in the code that are just plain hard to understand and modify. - The code base is large--over 1 million lines--so it's challenging to understand the big picture. - As of this writing, the project management team is short-staffed, which means developers often end up bearing the brunt of determining the requirements for new features. This often results in wasted time and effort, since developers aren't in the best position to know what end users want and need.
