You’ll Sleep When You’re Dead

Pros

Work from home, health benefits, coworkers. You’ll never need an alarm clock because you will get 15 pings from the CEO at 3 am and you won’t be able to go back to sleep.

Cons

Have you even seen the show Catfish? If they did the show about employers this place would be a top offender. This place has gone through so many people it would make John Gotti blush. If you want to experience burnout like the ‘86 Challenger work here! If you hate your wife and kids work here! Pins and needles? You’ll love walking on them here! Zero boundaries and endless change is worded under the guise of “high performance” and “fast paced environment.”

Unethical, Unorganized and very toxic environment

Pros

The health benefits are not bad. The agency saw growth last year. There are some talented individuals.

Cons

No formal Human Resources. The company states they only had layoffs once a couple years ago, but they have had several and just use different terms to go around calling them "layoffs". (Re-org, downsizing, etc.) The CEO changes his mind weekly on whether to hire, fire or stay put with staffing, which I would imagine makes recruiting and planning nearly impossible. Operates with very low staff levels yet expects coverage seven days a week, leading to difficulties giving "unlimited" PTO. The only secure position is the CEO's. He spends a ton of time cherry picking customers to sell policies too, then goes off on employees at the ground level for not performing better. No focus on actually informing the customer on what they're purchasing and Quality Assurance is nearly absent. They promise an annual offsite, but that was never held or even mentioned. The CEO did fly some of our sales team to Phoenix for a few days, but really they just worked 10-12 hour days. "Unlimited" PTO and company holiday's: They make you feel horrible for taking PTO. Christmas, New Years and Thanksgiving...the company as a whole has some more Holiday's, but they don't apply to the agency. No opportunity for professional growth and performance reviews do not come with any merit raises.

This is another tough one to hear, but thank you for the review. Let us add some context. First, I firmly reject the notion that anybody working for Trellis is unethical. There might have been decisions that were made that you disagreed with, but I stand behind our team and their character. PTO is unlimited, though we're upfront that requests should be made in advance, be reasonable in length, and are subject to manager approval. We’ve implemented PTO credits so that PTO does not "count against" agents when taking time off. We have three fully protected holidays, as you point out, and typically only require work on one other holiday. We don’t promise an annual offsite. We used to hold one, but the last was in 2021. Unfortunately with the market downturn we had to cut that out for everyone. Hopefully with the markets recovering now we can re-introduce something. Yes, the CEO can be hands-on. Sometimes too hands-on. He knows this and has actively worked on reducing and improving his day-to-day interactions on the sales floor, and in the number and quality of leads he works. Believe me, we're working on it. I’m sorry you had a bad experience in your time at Trellis. We genuinely are working on doing better for our team, agents and customer service in particular.

Pros

Work from home and one decent manager.

Cons

No one has any idea what’s going on. There is one manager who is worth his salt. The CEO has zero insurance experience and would rather boast about statistics that aren’t grounded in solid evidence. They expect high results while providing sub par training and zero ongoing support. Terrible system with constant bugs. Shady practices foster among agents because it’s the only way to make numbers. Zero customer service support so sales is forced to handle to service, further hindering close rates. Do not let their high salary attract you because it’s all smoke and mirrors. They will hire you and fire you within weeks.
