Industry knowledge - Since you'll be figuring everything out yourself, you get the chance to learn feet to the fire! True understanding of the definition of "Toxic Work Culture". You may meet a couple of really good people who are still trying to figure out if they're survivors or idiots.

Cons

Micromanagement to its fullest extent. Literally getting screamed at in front of peers over things you did NOT do incorrectly (but egos will not allow for apologies). Absolutely no strategy, no direction, no context. They can't tell you how to do something because they typically don't know, but more obviously so they can berate you as desired. Also, be wary about bringing your industry connections with you, as observation shows you will be used for them and quickly discarded.

Heartless CFO, returned from maternity leave only for my position to be eliminated effective immediately, 10 days from Christmas. Also being fired from HR with your coworker on the call just staring and looking down at their lap, where that same said team member sends a D pic to the entire company wide chat with zero consequences. Completely inappropriate. CFO berates team members on calls, makes everyone uncomfortable. The company has zero direction, always looking for people to blame when the ball gets dropped. There’s a reason the turnover is high. Do yourself a favor and find a company with integrity that respects moms in the workforce.

*Winner: most toxic workplace 28 years running* The CEO will literally call you names and insults in front of everyone during meetings. Best example of the disastrous leadership at TTI was when somebody left a (well-deserved) 1 star rating of the company. I heard the CEO didn't read it and reflect on it wanting to figure out how the company might have a chance for improvement. Instead, during the weekly 7:15am CEO stand up comedy special, I mean all hands meeting (That's a mandatory 5:15am PST BTW), he trumpeted "I want to know who the Judas is that left this review". Anybody who has a spine that isn't a yes-man to the CEO is terminated. Instead he retains people he can degrade and belittle. The VP of Sales, the CFO and the newly appointed President of the company all left within 2022. Bottom line: Go to work for TTI if you have to have a job while looking for a new one, not if you want to build a career and stay.

It is unfortunate when negativity runs in a small company. Negative people are 5x more likely to be vocal over those who are upbeat and positive. To rectify the situation, it is often necessary to reduce the negative influences so a positive culture can grow with those employees who are engaged and are here to grow dynamically as a team. Yes, the company does do a mandatory meeting on Fridays that is lighthearted, non-business and an effort to bring the team together on a personal level to maintain connection. Unfortunately, some people thrive on negativity and drama that is how they perceive most things around them and a move to a better situation is needed to help them be more successful on their professional path.
