Pros

Decent wage, nice Christmas party

Cons

If there's a way to be successful, I'm all in. However, at the 30 day mark I started another job search. This business is a best example of a 3rd generation family member ruining the business because he doesn't want to stop, listen, and fix the problems. "Thats the way we do things here" is the battle cry. Turnover in the office areas is ungodly high for good reasons. The MRP system hasn't been updated for 15 years so demand comes out of nowhere and unprompted glitches are the norm. Planning group puts past due demand on the system on Saturday and you'll get raked over the coals on Monday for late orders. Purchasing is the red headed step child of the organization, but yet the owner won't acknowledge or accept accountability for the neglect of purchasing systems or people over the years. Senior employees are promoted even though they are devoid the skillsets needed to be a manager. Balancing the workload is a foreign word and when another person quits, they simply double the workload on another person. Suppliers are firing Twin Disc at a rapid pace. There is no S&OP process so you are ordered to stock up for a year and then 3 months later told to cancel orders. Although tooling at suppliers is worn out, management blames the supplier or Purchasing. The office area is dirty, dated, and depressing. Quality leadership is severely lacking. The older employees near retirement are doing nothing but hiding until retirement. Terrible blame game throw it over the wall culture. HR is simply supplying the revolving door and will not be taking any meaningful action to help you when you have a legitimate concern. If you have a family, don't consider a job here.

Pros

Good pay, solid benefits, plant managers were pretty laid back and helpful. Option to work overtime when it was busy.

Cons

Second and third were the only shifts available to machinists and assemblers as a new hire, and you were stuck there for years until you have enough seniority to transfer. Communication between the different levels of management wasn't very good, you'd get three different assignments from three different bosses regularly. Work load was always up and down. Middle management was too crowded, a classic case of "too many chiefs not enough Indians".

Pros

Company Christmas party was nice.

Cons

Twin Disc does not utilize data to formulate decisions or long term business plans and is for the most part living off it's reputation and their dying technologies/product offerings. In terms of the day to day....material planning is non-existent and as a result orders are constantly late and customers constantly upset. Management does not work toward any meaningful process improvements, with the old adage 'this is how we've always done it' reigning supreme. In it's simplest form - each and everyday is a fire fight which only repeats, repeats, repeats. I would not recommend this place for any young professionals (first out of school) as you may begin to incorrectly formulate that the business practices this organization engages in are appropriate. If your mid-career Twin is a dead zone and if you're end of career, it's just simply not worth the frustration. In conclusion - I don't know you, but I know you can do better than Twin Disc.
